Cinco de Mayo means two things: booze and food. And, it begs the question, how many Tecates can you drink? From margaritas and gigantic burritos at classic-yet-campy Gorditos to bites at Ballard's mod-and-trendy Oaxaca, Cinco de Mayo is a great excuse to celebrate delicious Mexican food--and drink yourself into the partying spirit. Ok so this is the deal: go between 4pm and 6pm for one of the best happy hours in the city. The space itself feels a little like the cave from "The Princess Bride," but with comfy chairs. However, the deal is in the food: $2 tacos (duck confit is the best). Booze: $2 Tecates and $5 margs.

On the tip top of Phinney Ridge is this warm cantina serving up enormous house-made margaritas. You won't need more than one to get in full fiesta mode, and make sure to temper all the booze with cheesy burritos or spicy posole.

The name is a bit of a misnomer; the food isn't unhealthy--but a hulking burrito isn't the height of clean living, either. Gordito's provides satiation in the best of ways: with huge portions, low prices, and the perennial favorite: salsa bar.

The house margaritas are strong, the food is salty and tangy delicious, and there is a self-serve salsa bar with FOUR kinds of salsa. What more do you need on the 5th of May? Oh, and they have the great drink that is a michelada: beer + hot sauce + lime juice = taste-bud heaven.
