Our hearts go out to those suffering as a result of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. It's easy to feel powerless, but more effective to help--donate directly to one of the multiple organizations like Red Cross offering relief in the small country, or stop by a local fundraiser to give a few bucks. Perhaps the easiest method to donate is by texting "Haiti" to 90999 on your cell phone; each text results in a $10 donation added directly to your phone bill, and the money goes entirely to the American Red Cross. Already, millions of dollars have been donated.
The popular Fremont chocolate shop is donating 100 percent of the purchase price of 45-percent milk chocolate and 70-percent classic dark chocolate bars to CARE, a humanitarian nonprofit raising money for Haiti. Available also at Caffe Vita locations.
Party for a cause on Monday, Jan. 18 (7pm), at this Fremont lounge and live-music venue, where DJs Supreme La Rock, B Mello, DV One and Vitamin D will be performing to rally support for those in Haiti. The $10 donation at the door and proceeds from 42 Below vodka sales all go to Convoy of Hope's helping the victims.
On Monday, Jan. 25 (5:30pm), this downtown French restaurant will be serving a three-course Bouillabaisse dinner to support Doctors Without Borders' efforts in Haiti.
