Because we love you, we're giving you an excuse to indulge your love of pie. We asked our knowledgeable Dictators where their favorite sweet and savory slices could be found; drool-worthy answers below. Judging by the responses, Tom Douglas from Dahlia Lounge is clearly the reigning King of Pie--nearly everyone who responded mentioned a junkie-like need for the Triple Coconut Cream. Heather F.: "Mr. Douglas' coconut cream pie is life-changingly delicious! Available either by the slice or in whole pie form, this deep-dish, uber-creamy delight manages to celebrate everything a cream pie should but adds its own decorative embellishments in the shape of coconut tendrils and crusted flakes. Tip: Get to the bakery right when it opens in the morning, as this is one of their top selling delights and they sell out quickly!"
Scott H.: "I LOVE the pie at 94 Stewart. The cobblestone meringue topping absolutely blew my mind, and the Madagascar vanilla filling was so rich that I actually had to take part of the slice home with me (never happens!)."
Dominique B.: "Delish buttery crust and seriously tasty selection of flavors, from sweet to savory."
Joy M.: "Even Grandma can't compete with these pies! You can probably find every pie under the sun. From traditional apple and cherry to Kahlua Cream Cheese and... mince! OK, not a fan of mince, but the list of 20+ pies are sure to please the pickiest eater."
Felice L.: "Whether you're at Zoka in the morning getting your coffee, the afternoon for a small pick-me-up or at night for a small snack, this coffee shop offers some tasty berry pies--a solid portion that will make you really happy no matter what the time is. They provide different flavors from blueberry to marionberry or even blackberry. All of them are great to try."
Heather J.: "They have great vegan and regular pizza options and they let you add all the toppings you want at no additional charge. I have never heard of a place that does this, and they have free parking. It's a miracle."
Jay F.: "Flying Squirrel: Good char, some oil and a little bubble action. Also, I love the #8, with a free-range egg, buffalo mozzarella, organic arugula and red onion--delicious! Flying Squirrel edges out Delancey, which edges out Serious Pie."
Pierce M.: "Serious Pie serves up some seriously crazy (and tasty) pizza. We're talking stuff like truffle cheese, Penn Cove clams, and guanciale with egg on pizza. Pretty sweet."
Carrie F.: "Little savory pies of both the meat and vegetarian variety plus beer: what could be better? The pies are petite but with soup or fries on the side they are the perfect happy hour accompaniment to your $2 can of Pabst Blue Ribbon."
Carolyn B.: "Their pizza crust is perfect (made with buttermilk and beer), and they have a wonderful variety of flavors. My favorite is the Spicy Thai with peanut sauce and the Tropicana with Canadian bacon, mandarin orange slices and coconut. Coconut, by the way, is delicious on pizza. They also have speedy delivery, always a plus."
