Unfortunately, I have to agree. A good friend of mine has been having an awful time at the academy. My friend experienced discrimination & harassment not only from classmates, but from the educator as well. Something needs to be done about the bullying at this school.
Nothing but good things to say. I've been getting my hair done here for about a year. I have always been treated well and enjoyed my experiences. All procedures are done under the watchful eyes of instructors who will fix anything that needs it. I have recently discovered an excellent stylist named Berlin. She is awesome at cuts and colors, very professional and communicates well. As an added bonus she is faster than many other students so you don't have to be there all day. I highly recommend the academy and the stylist.
If you're looking for a real hack job, this is the place!.
I?m writing this review(which I should note is the first review I?ve ever written)because I believe one of the most awful experiences of my life should be reviewed. Perhaps to say having my hair cut at Gene Juarez turned out to be one of the most horrible experiences I?ve had in my life could be interpreted as rather vain, but the insincerity and unprofessional behavior of the people I encountered was what really inspired this review.
I should have known better at the front desk when I was treated like cattle, put into the computer & ushered into the back, following my assigned robot. My stylist seemed nice at first, if not a bit manic. In the middle of my hair cut she asked how I liked my hair so far, & I replied ?I?m not so sure about the direction this cut is taking?. To my SHOCK she responded with ?Oh, you?re having issues. It?s okay.? Seriously? What kind of pseudo-psychology BS was that? How offensive.
After that snide comment, the stylist at the station next to her came over & began cutting my hair AT THE SAME TIME as my stylist! Are you kidding me?! I at least had the consciousness (watching your hair being hacked off beyond repair tends to paralyze) to speak up & say I was uncomfortable with two people cutting my hair at once.
It was truly a mortifying experience. I wound up going to Great Clips that day, desperate for someone to fix my hair. I ended up getting my ?mullet? transformed into a wearable ?bob?.The girl at Great Clips did the best she could with what she had to work with.
I?m still uncomfortable with my bob that?s too short in the front & uneven all over, but it?s growing out & people that I know have been very supportive of my new look. The whole reason I made the mistake of going to a student for a cut was because in Seattle at another school (not Gene Juarez) I was given an AMAZING cut so I figured a Gene Juarez school in Federal Way could produce the same?Yeah, I?m crazy. Just make sure that when you?re on a budget you don?t go crazy too.
Being a student. ok so i went to school at Gene Juarez. If your planning to go to school there...i wouldnt. If you can stand rude instructors who just graduated from beauty school and went straight into teaching without real on the job expierence. It is like MILITARY school but for hair. They charge you a ridiculous amount to go there and they treat you miserably the whole year. They kick you out if you have to take time off at all and they yell at you for taking breaks. I have no clue how i made it through the school. It was an emotional roller coaster being treated like that. And they have such attitudes especially for people such as myself who are slower learners. They sent me home for wearing a skirt with leggings saying it was too short and the girl next to me was wearing the same exact one and they said your bodies are different and it looks different on me....why because she was skinny???? I was always being made fun of and brought down they brought my confidence to an all time low. And they gave me a check one time and then 4 months later asked for it back saying they accidently gave it to me and i had to pay it back. So be warned the finantial department doesnt know anything about your loan situations. I know some girls who were kicked out of advanced training for the most RIDICULOUS reasons. They want you to be a robot no feelings or emotions all wearing black and skinny and pretty and not all girls can fit the mold. Sylists are artist and should be able to express themselves as long as their professional. They told you how to wear your makeup and that you had to pick one style to follow it during the year. They act like they are fashion editors or someone who is a style Icon. You get graded every month on your skills which is great but also on your appearance... i had to work a job and go to school 40 hours a week so sometimes i didnt have the time to look "gene juarez" they finally changed the program so people can work too... so convienent now.
