Editorial Review for Chaces Pancake Corral – by Fred Brack

The Scene
Opened in 1958, Chaces is a small, one-story building whose plain exterior has been prettified by loads of hanging flowers. Inside, homey comfort rules. Ceiling fans, golf towels from around the world, Husky helmets (during football season) and family photos (including one of owner Bill Chace as a Husky crew member in 1932), serve as decor. Service is home-style and hospitable.

The Food
The menu lists eight egg dishes, four waffles and eight pancakes, plus burgers and sandwiches for lunch. Everything is prepared quickly and with practiced ease. Bargain specials, such as chicken-fried steak with two eggs or a hefty biscuit with sausage gravy, can be had for the price of a couple loads of laundry. For those with a serious pancake yen, try the combo plate of buttermilk, buckwheat, strawberry and potato cakes.

Man you guys are harsh. I know alot of things have gone down hill since Bill passed away but saying that it is awful isn't so. Just because your food doesn't taste like everywhere else doesn't make it bad. It's just not like your eggo waffles or your Denny's pancakes. You know why it tastes funny and unusual?....it's made with love.

Super friendly service. Very bland food. Dry pancakes with funny tasting butter and lowgrade syrup. $2.50 for a very small glass of orange juice from concentrate. My son, who likes any kind of pancake or waffle said his waffle tasted "wrong", I tried it and sure enough it was as dry and flavorless as the pancakes. I must say I was crushed that the food was so unimpressive as I have lived on the Eastside for years and always see people lined up to go there.

Pros: Very friendly service

Cons: Disappointing food
