In Short
Family carries a double meaning here. Julaluk ("Julie") Chantanee owns the place and runs the front; her mother and father share the kitchen. But it's also earned a reputation as an uncommonly friendly family restaurant, attentive to children and business people alike. The menu covers a range of regional Thai cuisine, with adjustments to Western tastes.

The food is alright when the old mama in the kitchen cooked it.. i'd been there since the old one. Not so friendly as people said. i'd rather keep my pocket for 4 happy meal than use it all in one springroll overthere..$$$$$

The food at Chantanee is good. The service and the staff are very prompt. They place can get crowded sometimes, but the staff manages the crowd and waits quite well.

My wife and I love Thai food, so when we read the many good reviews about Chantanee we looked forward to trying for ourselves. The building that they're in is older and fairly unattractive. It has very low ceilings, so during peak times it's quite noisy. Expect it to be noisy during any normal time to have a meal. The decor is sparse, and the tables are quite close together. It's not so much a nice restaurant as a sort of family style cafe setting. We were seated after a brief wait, and ordered drinks, an appetizer, and two entrees. The drinks never showed up, and the first appetizer we got, Miang Kum, was pretty much inedible so we had to send it back. Understand that I never, ever send anything back, I'm not even slightly picky. The replacement appetizer, spring rolls, was perfectly good - average spring rolls. We got two entrees, a chicken Pad Thai, and a duck red curry, one with white rice and one with brown. The duck was fairly good, even if it was a little bit lacking in variety. There as pretty much just duck and sauce, with a couple gigantic slices of zucchini, and then bamboo shoots. There was not anything else at all. It was good though, decently seasoned and enjoyable. The Pad Thai was very sweet, unusually so, and the chicken was completely overcooked and dry. The brown rice was good, but a good half of the white rice was very hard, as if it had been sitting out for a while. It was pretty gross, to be honest - especially where they charge for each serving of rice. So, after waiting a good 20 minutes between finishing our meal and receiving our check, when we finally got the check it included charges for the appetizer that we sent back, and also the drinks that we never received. I had them remove the drinks, and it took another 10 minutes to get the updated check, and another 10 after I gave them my card. It was ridiculous, and not even that busy at the time, I can't even imagine what took them so long. Overall, disappointing.
