predictably good. When in doubt - head to a predictably good spot for lunch. Their combo lunches are perfect - you only have to decide which soup to add to the towering sandwich.

txs for a great lunch today -

Bagel shop with delusions. I've been tio Gilbert's several times over the years, and always been disappointed. It's a tiny hole in the wall, with limited seating, and crude but functional furniture. You place your order at the counter, where other patrons are either dithering over the menu, or too busy talking with their friends. The servers are brusque, and probably overworked. Iced tea and lemonades come in towering narrow glasses, half filled with fruit, and topped with stupid little mai-tai umbrellas. Today, I ordered their signature salami and eggs. First they got the order wrong, and the server seemed inclined to tell me it was my error. When the right order came, the eggs were an unremarkable scramble. The salami looked like a single slice that had been julienned and then waved over the grill. The potatoes looked to have been boiled first, then cooked on a grill just long enough to make the skins look dirty. Not worth $20 overall.

#1 Deli - Experience NYC (Katz-grade) Excellence!. Since I travel a lot as an Entertainer, the great spots stand out. I shoot their food, menus, etc. with my cell phone. Pass these on to fans & friends..

Gilbert's on Main is a classic Deli - by NYC standards. The mile-high stacked Reubens, with pastrami and crunchy cole slaw for sour kraut. Tall bottomless savory ice teas with lemons and umbrellas. Breakfasts I like are omelets - terrific! - and fresh a treat is lox on bagel (the best). My daughter's partial to their died-and-gone-to-heaven Cajun chicken on greens' salad, or pear and cheese salad. Homemade soups & Matso balls are good, too.

Music's great on weekends. The Eastside's finest seem to gather here. Families span several generations.

Steve Gilbert, the savvy owner, has added LITE menu items during the week. $3.95 gets you a healthy petite French toast or pancake and egg. I can sure use that!

I would say the 'flavor' is distinctive. It's what you remember when you haven't been to a place in some time. Once it 'triggers' in your memory, it won't let you go. You have to go back - then you're hooked!

PS> Several top firms I deal with on Eastside use his catering services for business luncheons. Every detail seems to be looked after, as they say. And prices are reasonable.

Breakfast in Bellevue. I love coming to Gilbert's for breakfast, they have a petite menu option which I love! I have never been let down. Although the food is amazing it is fun to people watch on a nice day! YUM!

Gilbert on Old Main:Overpriced and overcrowded. I did a search for a bakery in Bellevue and Gilbert came up almost on top with 70 revues. We decided to give it a shot... Well, that's the last time we go to Old Main in the morning. You have to be able to deal with people before you go there. It was a hassle to find a parking spot, the line in the cafe was 10 minutes long. Breakfast bagels go at about $9. There's no bagel on the East Side worth that much money, even though their stuff is good you can pick up bagels and pancakes just as good in 10 other places around for about 2 times less. No tables were immediately available, patrons sit so close they rub elbows with each other. It takes a long while for them to clean the table. All things considered, we didn't get poisoned, but it wasn't an enjoyable experience. They also had live jazz on Sunday morning. Call me old-fashioned, but jazz is an evening music for me.

Bellevue's Best Breakfast/Lunch. Truly excellent hot pastrami. Also huge praise for the Rueben - the addition of pastrami is genius.

Also high marks for breakfast. The marion berry pancakes are brilliant. #5 microscramble on weekdays is a great <$5 bargain.
