Overview
An expansive garden, the whole contains several interesting parts: Look for the Waterwise Garden, which demonstrates how to grow sun and shade plants without needless water consumption. Or, come summer, visit the fuchsia garden--it contains nearly 100 varieties, all being tested against shifts in light and temperature. In the Yao Japanese Garden, you'll find arrangements that follow traditional and contemporary Asian ideas about gardening. Elsewhere gardens feature colorful perennial borders and ground covers.

Features
The Botanical Gardens' gift shop contains garden goodies, books on plants, cards and other gift items. And if you're looking to do some weed picking, dial 462-2749--there are volunteer opportunities aplenty.

This society has a public garden with everything you'd want--from plots of land to rent to professionally gardened seasonal flowers, fruits, and vegetable plants. But best of all, they host a free weekly talk on gardening, completely open to the public, hosted at the garden pavilion on Saturday mornings. What better way to begin a weekend than listening to a relaxing talk by an experienced gardener with demonstrations and tips. This place is, in every sense of the word, a sanctuary from our daily lives. Stop by and enjoy.

The kids then take the samples to the lab and look under microscopes and check out all the live little critters. Believe me when I say how amazing it is to see just how alive the water really is!
