Most Authentic Chinese Food in Washington!.
My husband and I were reluctant to dine at Shanghai Cafe due to several comments stating the negative customer service experience they had had.
Fortunately we decided to try it anyway and are SO THANKFUL we did!!! The food is literally the BEST Chinese food in the Puget Sound area. We have brought many of our friends to the restaurant and every single one commented on how amazing the food was.
A friend that had lived in China for quite a few years commented that it was the closest to the actual cuisine he had ever had in all of his travels in the US!
Despite the negative comments regarding the owner, we have NEVER had a bad experience dining at Shanghai Cafe. We dine here regularly and are quite surprised at the negative comments left. Of course, those that are displeased always tend to leave negative comments as opposed to those who have a good experience though!
So....the message? Don't listen to the negative reviews!!! Shanghai Cafe has amazing food and to not dine here is to miss out on a wonderful experience!
amazing. everytime i come here the food is better than before. very high quality. if you don't like the service get over yourself. i come to eat amazing food not get my ass kissed and the food is amazing.
authentic and delicious. Probably not a great spot for large groups, but food is great! Try the tofu soup thing, any noodle dish is excellent, any dumplings/potstickers dish will be yummy as well.
Our Favorite Comfort Food Restaurant. My husband & I have been dining at Shanghai Cafe since 2004 and we go back there regularly; their staff is very personable; their service has always been good. We just love their hand-shaven barley green noodles with chicken; and our other favorite is mu shu pork. We occasionally get their Shanghai rice cake special too.
Ignorant owner used racially insensitive words!. We went here for Chinese food, particularly the hand made noodles. The noodles were undercooked so we mentioned this to the woman who seated us. The owner shows up at our table and begins yelling at us, including some ugly words referencing our native heritage (we are native people.) This had to be the most awful dining experience of our lives! I mean this guy was calling us things you don't even hear in old John Wayne movies! DO NOT give this man your business!!
Extremely offensive behavior by owner. we went to this place because of their hand made noodles. Well, they were not cooked properly and had a chewy texture. Utterly unappealing. We brought this to the waitresses attention and lo, here comes the owner running out and screaming at us about being ignorant Gwai Lo! we were actually threatened by this behavior so we attempted to leave. Our path was blocked and the owner continued his harangue. We have never seen such incredible behavior. We will never patronize this place again nor should you!
Editorial Review by Brenda Stice. Home-made, hand shaved noodles and Chinese favorites keep the locals coming back to this small Bellevue restaurant.
handshaved!. my fave hand shaved noodles! always has the right texture to it and so flavourful! mmm! definitely good comfort food. their mushu pork is never greasy. their soups are great on cold, gloomy days.
Rude owner. We have frequented this restaurant over the years because the food is delicious and consistently good quality. However, this evening was the last time we are willing to put up with the extremely rude owner. She grabbed our dishes while we were still using them and started to clean the table because we were eating too slowly! We had been there less than an hour and the only reason we weren't done was because we had to wait 35 minutes for the first dish to arrive from the kitchen. I confronted the owner about this and she coldly told me never to return! Please do not support such an establishment because they do not deserve your business if they can be so mean to a loyal customer.
Our Favorite Family Restaurant. I have probably eaten here 25+ times and always look forward to the next visit. My wife and kids love it as much as I do. The service is consistent and the food is excellent. Even my Italian wife agrees they make the best deep fried squid she has ever eaten. Mu Shu Shrimp is spectacular. I regularly eat in high end restaurants across the country and am always amazed by how much I enjoy this restaurant. I wish they weren't quite as popular with the locals, but I can deal with an occasional short wait!
