Editorial Review for Trader Joe's – by Martha Burr
In Short
Founder Joseph Coulombe started this L.A.-based convenience chain 34 years ago. Today, you can get exotic, prepackaged frozen foods, fresh salsas, huge portobello mushrooms, baby artichokes and heirloom tomatoes fresher--and cheaper--than at most supermarkets. Inexpensive meat, fish, coffees and teas, dozens of cheeses, grains and pastas cram the shelves. The frozen section features tasty treats, including barbecue chicken pizzas, mushroom risotto and salmon patties. Beer, wine and liquor sections are stocked with very affordable labels.

Near Costco prices without buying in Costco sizes. I purchase all my cheese, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pesto, sun dried tomatoes, nuts, teas, dried fruits and ghiradelli chocolates here! Good prices on organic and hormone free eggs, milk and sour cream. Incredible prices on red peppers, grape, cherry, and heirloom tomatoes, avocados and very tasty OJ! I'd go crazy (and my food bills would double) if I didn't have one nearby.
Pros: Great prices, Convenient locations, Nice variety
Cons: Stock changes

I just love this place. It has such an eclectic variety of products and amazing prices. I have filled my cubbords with so many interesting things - from frozen pizzas, pasta, sauces, frozen goods, fresh veggies, etc. Also, where else can you get a decent bottle of wine for $2.99.
