The Scene
The place is small and crowded, but it exudes a certain "old money" appeal, thanks to dark woods, dim lighting and plenty of red meat. Since reservations aren't taken, the wait is likely to be at least an hour on Friday and Saturday nights. Wise diners arrive early for the quickest seats and most relaxed service.
The Food
Bring on the steaks--filet, New York strip and porterhouse, to name just a few. All entrees include a bare-bones salad and choice of potatoes: The garlic skin-on mashed reds or savory grilled potato pancakes are easy favorites. For intense flavor, the pork medallions topped with a mandarin orange salsa or grilled ancho chili-seasoned prawns deliver powerful punches of seasoning. Desserts don't disappoint, especially the creamy cheesecake with strawberry-mint sauce or moist, fudgy chocolate decadence cake.

They are now open for lunch. I love to take out-of-town guests there. The steaks and potato pancakes are delicious. Go before 5 p.m. if you don't want to wait and then you can have a relaxing dinner. The desserts are too sweet, lack variety, and remind me of corporate restaurant desserts. They may be made there, but they don't taste as if they are. I recently had the creme brulee. It's big, but it lacks true vanilla flavor, sophistication, and the fine, rich, creamy quality of the real article.

We are great fans of fine meat so we went to Jaks on the basis of word of mouth. The meat here is not of a quality I would say meets even choice grading, much less prime. The meat was firstly overcooked but the quality was substandard so we brought this to the waitress' attention. Next thing we know we have the manager at our table asnd he makes the statement, "I didn't know you people knew about prime beef!" We are hispanic and proud. I cannot fathom why we were sunbected to this outrage. We demand you boycott this establishment.

We waited way too long to get a table - it must have been almost two hours - butthe real disappointment was the food. I don't have a problem paying upwards of 50 bucks for a great cut of steak. At Jak's I paid that much for a mediocre steak. It was pretty piss-poor, actually. Take my advice and take your biz to Daniel's, the Met, or even Mortons. Jaks is really bad in every way - food, service, and quality of food
