Editorial Review for Izumi – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Tucked into Kirkland's taco-and-burger land, the restaurant is its own self-contained world. Just part the dark-blue half-curtain inside the front door to find competent servers in traditional sea-green kimonos. Roe enthusiasts may sample the eggs of four different sea creatures. Makunouchi--a feast of sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki and cooked vegetables in a lacquer box--comes in two sizes at dinner.

I have been an Izumi customer for 15 years. I don't get out that way much anymore, but we made it out tonight. I read the reviews on this site before we left and I called the restaurant to see if the person on the other end was rude in any way. I was skeptical because in 15 years, I have never had anybody from Izumi be anything other than extremely polite. Tonight was no exception. We had to wait for a table, the food was a little slow in coming, and it was very good. It was worth 5 stars the last time I went there--maybe two years ago, but I felt perfectly fine with spending $20 per person. The food was good, the service was decent, and the people there are some of the nicest you could ever hope for. What these people exprienced when they walked up and the place was closing is classic Izumi. I've been frustrated with it before, because the place never seems to be open. The service can be slow, but anybody complaining of rude service at this restaurant should not be believed.

Made the trip from the University District to meet a business associate. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Very rude staff and extremely snobbing for a "strip mall" in Totem Lake. They flipped their OPEN sign to CLOSED as I walked towards the door 30 minutes before they close. The sushi was less than satisfactory, poor service, and the staff made me wonder why on Earth I drove 30 minutes for such a horrible experience. Lastly, I left an important folder with work notes behind. I called the next day to retrieve them. "The owner told me I didn't eat there???" He honestly laughed at me and hung up on me. WOW!!! Happy to be on the other side of Lake Washington. Hopefully people will stop mindlessly dumping money here. Go to I LOVE SUSHI in Bellevue. At least they're nice.
Pros: They make a great california roll????
Cons: Extremely rude staff. Very expensive. Horrible service.
