Sure, it's in a strip mall. But it's THE BEST!. Hard to believe Seattle's best traditional sushi restaurant is in a strip mall in Totem Lake! But it's true! Izumi is a gem. Absolutely everything on the menu is prepared beautifully according to Japanese tradition. You won't find absurd rolls here, the American crap-on-top-of-a-fried-cali-roll nonsense that seems to be everywhere these days. Just beautiful cuts of sashimi, perfectly prepared cooked entrees, traditional noodle dishes. Oh my word, it's just so good!

Good food but a little spendy. We recently had dinner for the first time at Izumi. The food was good - very tasty and well prepared. The prices were a bit expensive ($11 for my meal of cold udon noodles, 2 tempura prawns, and 3 small tempura veggies and $1.50 for my side of miso; $19 for my husband's meal of assorted tempura + maybe 8-10 pieces of assorted nigiri sushi + rice, salad, miso soup).

Service was good and we got our drinks refilled promptly (always a must for me in a restaurant).

Atmosphere was nice once you got inside (they block the view of the parking lot with a nice screen) and quiet.

We'd eat here again!

Rude Service? Not at Izumi. NFW.. I have been an Izumi customer for 15 years. I don't get out that way much anymore, but we made it out tonight. I read the reviews on this site before we left and I called the restaurant to see if the person on the other end was rude in any way. I was skeptical because in 15 years, I have never had anybody from Izumi be anything other than extremely polite. Tonight was no exception. We had to wait for a table, the food was a little slow in coming, and it was very good. It was worth 5 stars the last time I went there--maybe two years ago, but I felt perfectly fine with spending $20 per person. The food was good, the service was decent, and the people there are some of the nicest you could ever hope for. What these people exprienced when they walked up and the place was closing is classic Izumi. I've been frustrated with it before, because the place never seems to be open. The service can be slow, but anybody complaining of rude service at this restaurant should not be believed.

BAD. BAD. BAD...........strip mall sushi is Washington should go bankrupt!!!!!!!!. Made the trip from the University District to meet a business associate. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Very rude staff and extremely snobbing for a "strip mall" in Totem Lake. They flipped their OPEN sign to CLOSED as I walked towards the door 30 minutes before they close. The sushi was less than satisfactory, poor service, and the staff made me wonder why on Earth I drove 30 minutes for such a horrible experience. Lastly, I left an important folder with work notes behind. I called the next day to retrieve them. "The owner told me I didn't eat there???" He honestly laughed at me and hung up on me.

WOW!!! Happy to be on the other side of Lake Washington. Hopefully people will stop mindlessly dumping money here. Go to I LOVE SUSHI in Bellevue. At least they're nice.

Rude Staff. Don't go unless you want to be insulted. There are alot of great sushi places on the Eastside, there's no need to put up with the rude owners and staff members for decent sushi.

Terrible Service. We waited over 40 minutes for our edamame to arrive and another 20 minutes for our sushi. Meanwhile two other tables, ordered, ate and left the restaurant. The waitress told us the delay was our fault since we arrived at the restaurant so close to closing time. We were there for lunch, we arrived at 12:55 and the restaurant closes at 1:30. The food is good the wait staff and management are down right rude.

Fabulous food and service. I have been dining at Izumi's for at least 15 years and I get some of the best service and outstanding food anywhere. It is a little more spendy than some of the other Japanese restaurants but the food is consistently good. Shito Kamioka (Sushi Chef) makes some of the best and freshest sushi. They always know me and are super friendly. It is my favorite Japanese restaurant to visit.

Can't have it your way. I will never go there again.

I went to get a take out order because some friends at work had recommended it.

I ordered an Udon dish and asked for an extra side of meet with it. It's normal for a nominal extra charge.

They flat out refused. I have never had that happen before. I would understand the high prices if the food is good and the service is even nominal but the service is not user friendly.
