Editorial Review for Molbak's – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
As "Canon in D" plays softly overhead, shoppers sift through 70 tables of perennials, annuals, herbs, and vegetables, examine the extensive array of packaged seeds and garden supplies, marveling at the vast selection of roses, rhododendrons and azaleas. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and doesn't hesitate to lend a helping hand. Make sure to pop in during the holidays, when the greenhouse is filled with thousands of poinsettias, twinkling white lights and the Dickens Carolers' festive melodies.

Insider Tips

When to Go

People come from near and far for the annual 2-for-1 plant sale that begins in late June and runs through early July.

Know Before You Go

Don't expect grocery store prices. The plants here aren't expensive, but you won't find African violets for 99 cents.

I wish there were some sort of requirement for the number of employees per square foot of the business, because you can stand in the middle of this wonderful facility and look end to end and not see a single employee. Should the rare occurance happen that you stumble across one, they are already busy. My wife and I love their selection bet the labor involved in getting assitance with anything just isn't worth it. Thank god we recently found a new nursery just a bit further up the road in Maltby. For the last 3 years we have bought our Christmas tree there as they do a great job with flocking. Each year has proven more arduous than the previous. Last year we were tasked with bagging our own tree and huffing it out ourselves. This year we had finally had enough and went to one of the road side lots that were more than happy to help, but sadly didn't have flocking capabilities. Every year it's been the same cantankerous service by a stocky disgruntled lady in the nursery, and we have finally had enough.

Pros: Great selection

Cons: Customer Service, Customer Service, and Prices

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I love to go to Molbak's! There plants are gorgeous and the selection is amazing. You must go at Christmas time to see the poinsettia festival! Wonderful! The staff is very helpful with your questions. It's not cheap, but you're getting quality!

This nursery's flagship store is a gardener's haven, prompting even the most urban city-dweller to run off to the pea patch.  See the full editorial review.
