Editorial Review for Nordstrom – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Founded as a Seattle shoe store in 1901, this popular chain is now known for manageably priced designer duds. Shoppers find a hint of sophistication in the store's white floors and pianists on baby grands. Unique departments include the Brass Plum juniors' section with Ruby Rox and Diesel, and Studio 121 for career-savvy women. A business-centric men's clothing department offers Ben Sherman suits, while relaxed styles from Marc Jacobs and Lacoste are in The Rail department.

The service ain't what it used to be. For example, I left a purse to be repaired January 1. The salesperson stated that it would take about a month for repair. No problem. It is April, and the purse has still not been repaired!!!! If the salespeople would have told me that, at least I could've taken it somewhere else! Also, the ladies in Studio 121 are unprofessional--a couple of them argued over whether or not "I was their customer" (presumably to argue over the commission), in front of me! Completely unprofessional and left a bad taste in my mouth. I complained to customer service, but this has happened in several other departments over the last couple of years (men's, fragrance).
Pros: Downtown location is convenient for workday shoppers
Cons: Service is horrible!

Don't get me wrong, I love Nordstrom, which is why it almost pains me to have had such a bad experience with their Fine Jewelry department. It is NOT the normal Nordstrom experience. They have high mark ups, they don't negotiate under any circumstances, and their service level is poor. I ended up making a recent purchase of Kwiat earrings at Alvin Goldfarb (a great store!) instead and it was a night and day difference. Maybe it's better to purchase a high end item like fine jewelry from someone who specializes in it? Shoes at Nordy’s, yes, diamonds, a definite no.
