Le Panier

A touch of Paris in the market

  • Classic baguettes
  • Traditional French patisseries
  • Delectable sandwiches

At Le Panier, our pastries are baked fresh each morning, including baguettes, butter croissants, palmiers, friands, and sables with chocolate and hazelnuts.

Our French patisseries include napoleon, éclair au chocolat and tartes aux fruits.

Sandwiches are available, from brie to jambon beurre to roast beef, made with fresh baguettes.

Boulanger and co-owner Thierry Mougin, born in France and trained as a baker beginning at age 14, sets the standard high by maintaining the French ideals for bread and pastry. The aroma of butter and freshly-baking bread lures Market regulars and visitors. Caffé Umbria is served to accompany your warm almond croissant or slice of apricot tarte. For the holidays choose from Bûche de Noël, small cookies packed for gift-giving, and the Galette des Rois.

Editorial Review for Le Panier – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Diners perch on a handful of counter seats (the best offer a view of the Market's foot traffic), for breakfast or lunch of a Brie-smeared baguette chased with a steaming cup of coffee. Francophiles stand in line at this self-proclaimed "Very French Bakery" for a baguette, a brioche or a chocolate croissant. More than a few leave clutching a meringue or a chocolate eclair.

Insider Tips

Parking

The most consistent bet is taking advantage of the Pike Place Market garage, which offers an hour of free parking for market patrons; arrive before 9:30am and park all day for $5.

I just tucked into a bit of the campagne loaf and have to say it's one of the best loaves of bread I've ever had. It's moist, and chewy and the crust it perfectly browned and crunchy. Absolutely worth every penny!
