Editorial Review for Dragonfish Asian Cafe – by Hannah Levin

The Scene
Palm-frond fans rotate on high ceilings and brightly playful pachinko game machines line the walls while young professionals crowd the bar. Post-work crowds can be crushing, as downtown fusion fans have discovered that this is a tasty, inexpensive way to wait out rush hour. Service tends to be friendly and swift.

The Food
Sampling dim sum and fresh vegetable plates is the way to go. Decadent caramel-ginger chicken, wok-seared sugar snap peas with shiitake mushrooms or any of the tuna-based sushi rolls are consistently safe bets. A shining entree is the four-onion beef, a rich and tender medley finished with a beautifully balanced lemon grass-beef reduction. For dessert, Chocolate Heaven lives up to its name.

Insider Tips

Save Money

The best deals are had 4pm-6pm and 10pm-1am, but get there early: The place is jammed by 5:15pm on weeknights.

Parking

This is one of the worst spots in downtown to find a parking space. Avoid the headache: Leave your car behind or park at the cheapest, closest pay lot on Pike and Bellevue (across from the Baltic Room).

I like going to this place for happy hour when I'm in downtown. Last week I went there and the bartender recommended this new beer called Pandan Ale. It's very tasty and unique! Look for the Buddha handle.

The place can be empty or insainely packed. Nosh is small, but tastes great. Bartenders know what goes where & why, but seemed a tad out of it, to me. I had a good time soaking it all in.

Pros: staff & location

Cons: rest room on another floor with no stairs
