This bustling little cafe near Pike Place Market offers a nice rendition of Southern classics--along with a decidely unique staff.. NOTE: Delcambre's closed in April 2002.
The Scene
A flutter of hand-signing across the room between the owner/chef and his mostly deaf staff may surprise some; Danny Delcambre, who studied under Paul Prudhomme, is both deaf and sight-impaired. There's no shortage of courtesy, however; he and his staff provide pleasant, efficient service.

The Food
One bite of Delcambre's spicy blackened prawns will transport you to a backwoods Louisiana café, complete with a fan swirling lazily overhead, zydeco music thumping and the smell of jambalaya on its way to the table. His version of the expected red beans and andouille, creamy catfish etouffee., and gumbo brimming with sausage are also thoroughly satisfying.
