Editorial Review for Terrace Garden – by Anna Roth

In Short
Inside, the restaurant's decor is paint-by-numbers upscale dining, but the real action is happening on the large outdoor deck, which is spotted with umbrella-clad tables, has a bird's-eye view of downtown and Elliott Bay and is one of Seattle's better-kept summer secrets. Post-work drinks are the main draw, featuring a tangy margarita and good selection of wine and beer. Bar snacks include mozzarella sticks and nachos, while the dinner menu highlights Northwest cuisine.

Where to begin? (1) The restaurant was about 80 degrees. (2) The service was very slow (we were there for 1.5 hours and only ordered entrees). (3) The timing was off (after waiting 30 mins for salads, the waitress told us our entrees were almost ready and then asked if we wanted them with the salad or if we wanted to wait a bit...we chose to wait but then didn't get our entrees for another 35 minutes, after we had asked another staff member to tell our waitress we were ready). (4) The orders were mixed up (I got the sirloin instead of the rib-eye I ordered, my sirloin was cooked medium-well when I'd ordered medium-rare, I was brought veggies instead of mashed potatoes, and two of the steaks were missing the mushroom topping.) (5) The food wasn't that great...because the plates had very obviously been under a warmer for 30 minutes). (6) The waitress wasn't particularly apologetic (she did offer to give us free dessert but never came back to take our dessert and she never seemed sorry for making it a joke of an evening). I normally visit a restaurant twice before making a final judgment but I will never return to Terrace Garden.

Pros: Easy to get in

Cons: Overpriced food, unapologetically slow service, order mix-ups

OMG, this was a fantastic place. They couldn't have been more attentive. The conceirge (sp) was the nicest person ever. He took us up personally to the restaurant after we relayed our horrible dining experience at the hellish Elephant and Castle. He spoke directly to our wait staff and manager and made sure we had an awesome dining experience. He even came back up to check on us. anyways, the food was excellent. the service was amazing. we will be back!
