Excellent ! This hotel made my husbands 40 th very special... I wanted to find a special hotel to bring my husband for his 40th birthday. A great downtown location so that we could walk to all of the important sites that we would wanted to take in. I came across Hotel Monaco which happens to be one of The Kimpton Hotel chain hotels. But to say that it is part of a chain doesn't describe the uniqueness of this hotel. The decor is clearly shown throughout the photos on the website. I suppose you would describe it as New Orleans inspired/warm European. The staff was really warm ,friendly and helpful. We got a very good rate for the room. Being that is was for my husbands 40th, I wanted to insure that I got a special room but with the economy in the state that it is I am on a bit of a budget. I phoned the hotel directly to make the reservation but I gave them the rates that I found through online pricing i.e. Kayak.,priceline.They matched the lowest price that I had found happily. We were able to get a room on the 10th floor of this 11 story hotel. The view was of the city, I don't think you would get a view of Elliot Bay from this hotel, but it is very pleasant. The room was a suite and it was spacious and cozy. The hotel hosts a happy hour every night from about 5 - 6 where they serve wine in the lobby which is a very nice touch. On one of the evenings they had Guitar Hero set up for people to play, which is fun but it didn't disturb the other guests, it just added to the atmosphere. The guests consisted of every type of person. Young hipster's, a few families, older couples and people celebrating their 40th!. It is located on 4th street which is very near the Theater district and about a 10 minute walk from Pikes Place Market. Also, about a 15 minute walk from the ferries and old town Seattle. It is on a fairly steep hill which may or may not affect your decision, but that is downtown Seattle. To make you feel more at home they have a goldfish in your room that you can enjoy for your stay. Our goldfish was named Esther! Very cute touch. They also have Aveda products for you to enjoy in your room. On the bed they had duvet's, very compfortable, not sure if they were down but they were wonderful. They also have a resturant, Sazerac, a New Orleans style eatery. Our room rate had the Rise and Shine package which included breakfast. The nice thing was that the breakfast consisted of their American Breakfast, which was 2 eggs, homefires, toast/fruit and either Andouille sausage, bacon or ham and OJ ( I think it was Odwalla ) and coffee. If these choices didn't suit you you could order from the menu for the same value. Being that this was the most expensive item on the breakfast menu I felt as though you had several other choices! I also love the details of the resturant as well. Very lush and warm, we even loved the cutlery/service wear. One of the most special touches was that a bellman knocked on our door and brought my husband chocolate and let him know that there was a bottle of Sparkling Wine chilling ready to be delievered whenever he was ready. This was a very thoughtful touch and unexpected, since I hadn't ordered it and it was on the house. All in all, we loved this hotel and my husband had a terrific birthday. They made us feel like welcomed guests and we will definitely return to this hotel and possibly their other locations! By the way, with breakfast the room rate was only $135.00 per night.

Colorful boutique hotel mixes sumptuous decor, romantic touches and fine amenities.. In Short
The decor at this quaint hotel is plush and whimsical, with vibrant colors and rich textiles. Guests start the day with complimentary coffee service and unwind with an afternoon wine reception. Guest rooms have a romantic feel, with soft, velvety furnishings and luxury amenities like CD stereos, terry-cloth robes, fully stocked honor bars and Aveda bath products. For business travelers, accommodations include two-line phones with data ports, in-room fax machines, shoe shine, laundry services and complimentary newspapers.

HOTT STUFF! Cozy, romantic, friendly staff. We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times and have had an excellent experience on each visit. The location is ideal for walking to our favorite restaurants and nightlife [ Wild Ginger, Purple, Belltown...] and the staff is friendly but not obnoxious and "canned". For a few dollars extra we reserved the Medit. Suite and thoroughly enjoyed the jacuzzi tub, wink, wink! The "W" is directly across the street and the Four Seasons is on the next corner, so you have several bars and restaurants within a stones throw. We have stayed in many upscale hotels [often for business] but there is something unique at this one , maybe it's the evening wine reception or the slinky decor.....? Whatever the magic formula is, it works for us. Let's just say we "rested" a great deal, but didn't get much sleep, va ,va,va,voom!!!

I expect a lot more for $330 a night!!!. I made the mistake of booking an engagement celebration trip at the last minute. Hotel Monaco came highly recommended, but here are my thoughts. The Seattle hotel industry is made up of young and inexperienced workers. There is a difference between arrogance and confidence and the staff at Hotel Monaco clearly misses the mark. While they are not unpleasant, they certainly do not go out of their way to differentiate themselves through service. While paying $330 per night, we expected more personalized service. The front desk was unattentive and constantly pretended to be busy. I had let them know beforehand that we were there to celebrate an engagement and when we checked in, we did not receive an acknowledgement or nothing special from them. When I asked for a taxi, they acted as if they were doing me a favor. The doorman opened one of the doors for us and never once did a bellboy offer to take our bags. This is simply a sheep dressed up in wolf's clothing. They also overextend themselves by charging an arm and a leg for parking, for internet use in their "business room" and a so-so breakfast next door that we had to pay for. The rooms are clean, but they are very very small. It simply does not meet the standards of $330 a night. It was hard to stomach and I will not be staying here in the future. The W and Fairmont are right across the street and offer better value for your money. An acknowledgment of our engagement would have gone a long way.
