Editorial Review for Siam On Broadway – by Anthony York

The Scene
The relaxed atmosphere reflects the no-nonsense approach to standard Thai fare. Grab a quick bite at the counter, where you can absorb the organized chaos of the open kitchen and check out the parade of foot traffic on Broadway. Service can be efficient to the point of overzealousness, but that only adds to the informal, bustling vibe.

The Food
Fish cakes and other Thai standbys like pad thai or tom kah gai are safer bets than some of the other entrees. The curries can be on the salty side, a problem alleviated somewhat with a helping of white rice. The Siam speciality of orange beef is prepared with a bounty of fresh vegetables, but thin slices of candied beef can be charred and leathery. Vegetarians fear not, there's no shortage of good options, including the Siam spicy eggplant, enlivened with fresh basil and cashew nuts.

Insider Tips

Where to Sit

The restaurant can get loud. If conversation is the point of the meal, try to score one of the tables on the north side of the restaurant.

Parking

Neighborhood parking is tight. To avoid the hunt, opt for the pay lot on the corner of Broadway and Mercer.

I have to say that I eat a lot of Thai food, and Siam on Broadway makes the best Pad Thai in Capitol Hill. I have never eaten in the restaurant; I just order my food to go. It is always ready for pick-up in less than 15-minutes. The quality is the same every time. Siam on Broadway is much classier than your usual hole-in-the-wall Thai place.

Pros: Quality. Service.

Cons: Parking.

The noodle dishes here are my favorite! I have been coming to this place since 1991. The food is what keeps bringing me back.
