What People Are Saying About Glo's

The Scene – This tiny pie-wedge of a coffee shop buzzes with energy, from the open kitchen to the colorful crowd waiting outside. It's comfortable enough to please the grandparents, but quite popular with the diverse residents of Capitol Hill. Service is friendly, if occasionally harried. – – The Food – Greasy-spoon purists should keep an open mind--all the diner classics are here, but with some welcome twists. Corned beef hash and eggs isn't the standard mesh--instead, chunks of fresh-cut corned beef and potatoes are mixed in a spicy tomato sauce. A homemade touch…

Editor's Tips

Parking:
It's a long hunt for parking and often easier to spring for a lot. Go a few blocks off Olive Way and you should find a space.
When to Go:
Gloreen "Glo" Ranieri has been serving Seattle diner chow since 1987, and she still pours the coffee on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Didn't live up to the hype

by LoraT at Citysearch

An acquaintance recommended Glo's restaurant and warned us there would be a wait. We waited for 45 minutes for a BAD table (right next to the restrooms) and then waited another 30 minutes to get our order taken. It was packed and loud.

The corned beef hash and the eggs benedict were suggested by our server, so we ordered them. The corned beef hash had apparently been pureed in a food processor. It didn't taste very good to either of us. The benedict was good, but certainly not great; I've had better. Heck, I make it better! The breakfast WAS NOT worth nearly 30 dollars!

Service is slow....

by jasperlin at Citysearch

but who cares? Good things come to those who wait. In this case, GREAT things come to those who really wait ... for a long time. Everything about this place is slow. Just be patient, plan to have a 2 - 2.5 hour experience, and be patient some more.

It means something when a place has food so good that they can treat you with indifference, and you still feel the need to tip high because of the exceptional tastes.

I only wish I could go more often. Go during the weekdays. The weekends are horrible. They've changed the hours for Friday and Saturday night: Midnight-4pm. Yes, you heard that right. I haven't been at 3am, but it's an intriguing proposition.

Glo - on the go, but a little slow..

by Dayna J Reid , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

Upon stepping into this small diner style cafe on Saturday morning around 9:30am, I was greeted by a very friendly hostess. It was very crowded and I was lead to the last table available in a little corner near the restrooms. There were fresh purple and yellow daisies on the nice wood table. The service was slow, but the atmosphere was lively and interesting with conversation all around and copies of “The Stranger” and “Seattle Weekly” available to peruse through. The coffee was unexpectedly yummy given the “Denny’s” style mugs it was delivered in. They also brought water with no ice! This was a special treat, because I really don’t like ice in my water. I don’t know if this was intentional, and when I looked around no one else had ice either, so if this is their standard way of serving water, I have to give them kudos!

When my food arrived it was artistically presented on the plate (with a pink grapefruit garnish -instead of the standard orange garnish most establishments use-really nice touch), but they got part of the order wrong which they quickly corrected. My eggs were cooked to a perfect ‘over medium’ (this is very rarely done correctly-usually eggs are undercooked), but they were a little too salty for my taste. The bacon was your average diner bacon, nothing to get excited about, the hash browns were flavorful with just the right amount of crispy layer, and the wheat toast had just the right amount of butter melted on it. Overall a good experience. But be aware this place is popular and does get crowded..by the time I left around 10:30am there was a line out the door.

  • Pros: Good breakfast food, lively atmosphere
  • Cons: Slow service and long line.

What's not to love?!

by listentomywords at Citysearch

This tiny little breakfast joint is incredible! I am something of a eggs benedict connoisseur, and these are by far the BEST. The hollandaise is absolute perfection! You may have to wait a bit because this place is pretty popular, but you'll have a delicious cup of coffee in the meantime. A word to the wise...call ahead and place your name on the list...you won't wait as long. What you will do is enjoy a DELICOUS breakfast in a small and quant restaurant. Enjoy!

  • Pros: GREAT food, great atmosphere, good stuff
  • Cons: none...unless you hate deliciousness.

I had to give it 1 star because there was no 0 star rating

Ridicuosly long wait for dirty tables, chairs, menus - and how long has that jam been in the jar on the table? The service was HORRIBLE by everyone, our food was cold and bland when we FINALLY received it. Had to beg for our check so we could get out of there!

I have no idea why anyone would give them their service - I know I never will again. I am assuming that this was a great dive breakfast joint in the past, but no longer.

  • Pros: I never have to go there again
  • Cons: Horrible service, cold and bland food, dirty
