The Scene
This tiny pie-wedge of a coffee shop buzzes with energy, from the open kitchen to the colorful crowd waiting outside. It's comfortable enough to please the grandparents, but quite popular with the diverse residents of Capitol Hill. Service is friendly, if occasionally harried.
The Food
Greasy-spoon purists should keep an open mind--all the diner classics are here, but with some welcome twists. Corned beef hash and eggs isn't the standard mesh--instead, chunks of fresh-cut corned beef and potatoes are mixed in a spicy tomato sauce. A homemade touch punches up waffles and pancake specials like the buckwheat with apple-rhubarb compote. Eggs are perfectly poached for the Benedict and slathered in a light, lemony hollandaise. Lunch standards get special treatment as well--the turkey sandwich dresses the fresh-roasted meat with cream cheese and cranberry sauce. Even the basic BLT scores high with fresh bread, crisp bacon and flavorful Dijon mayo.

Ridicuosly long wait for dirty tables, chairs, menus - and how long has that jam been in the jar on the table? The service was HORRIBLE by everyone, our food was cold and bland when we FINALLY received it. Had to beg for our check so we could get out of there! I have no idea why anyone would give them their service - I know I never will again. I am assuming that this was a great dive breakfast joint in the past, but no longer.

I have signed up solely to give this place a bad review. Let me preface: I used to love Glo's. On a lovely summer day, this place is great. The hour wait isn't so bad when you can bask in the sun. And the food here really is fantastic. I would also like to say that I have worked in restaurants for five years, instilling in me a great empathy and patience with servers, cooks, and restaurant staff. I understand how stressful and awful it can be. I totally get it. Having said that, the servers at Glo's have absolutely no idea what they are doing. I'm throwing in the towel on this restaurant. I give up. So Glo's, if someone comes up to put their name on the list and asks how long of a wait, here's a tip: look at the list, look at the room of full of tables, and tell them the truth. If there is at least two turns worth of people on the list before them, TELL THEM THE TRUTH. I was told 30 minutes to 40 minutes. I waited patiently. Then, after fifty minutes, I asked how much longer. They told me there was one table before me. I asked them how much longer they think that would be and the server, irritably and condescendingly, explains to me, "Well that all depends on how long people take to eat." YES, I KNOW THIS. However it also depends on how long YOU take to take their order, make their food and give them their check. I guess that's hard to gauge when you are standing outside talking to friends. YOU work here so YOU know how long it will be. I am trying not to presume, so I am asking you. I ask again. She says twenty minutes. Oh, okay, so the first time, when you said 35 minutes, you meant an hour and ten minutes. Thank you, so much, for that clarification. Thank you for stringing me along. If you had told me the truth the first time, I wouldn't have even bothered waiting. But if you just slowly add on more time every twenty minutes or so, I'll keep waiting, won't I? Glo's, screw you. You aren't worth it.

Even though the service at Glo could be better and the wait is pretty long, it does have some of the best breakfast. I definitely recommend their eggs Benedict.

Parking:
It's a long hunt for parking and often easier to spring for a lot. Go a few blocks off Olive Way and you should find a space.
When to Go:
Gloreen "Glo" Ranieri has been serving Seattle diner chow since 1987, and she still pours the coffee on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
