What Our Expert Scouts Say

May 14, 2013

If you're a breakfast at midnight type of person this is certainly the joint for you. Doors to this popular late night eatery don't even open up until midnight. Classic fare awaits the hungry masses.

Old time diner with Ed Debevic's like service that isn't an act. The traditional fat laden breakfast fare is tasty and affordable. A great stop post a visit to the club.

Not worth the wait. I had seen the lines outside of Glo's and decided it must be worth the wait, so I went for Sunday brunch. In reality, it wasn't worth the wait at all. There was a 30 minute wait for a table (which wasn't so bad), but once we sat down, it took the waitress 15 minutes to take our order, then another 45 minutes for the food to arrive. The couple sitting next to us had a similar wait, and I couldn't help but notice that as soon as their food was on the table, they inhaled their food as quickly as they could to prevent from starving. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. Not what I would consider good diner food (compared to San Francisco & NYC diners). Considering that our total wait time was over an hour and we ate for 10 minutes (albeit the coffee was flowing constantly), I will never eat here again.

our food NEVER came, zombie waitress did not care. Our food never came and the waitress kept blowing us off. We asked about our order and she just said "Ok". Eventually, everyone who had been waiting in line behind us was inside and had their food. We finally left. On our way out, we told the waitress that our food NEVER came (which she knew) and we were giving up and leaving. She said "Ok - whatever". She probably never placed our order. Strange experience. One I don't plan to repeat !

Tasty Eats and worth the wait!!. I gotta say, I've seen the ups and down with this place, but it always pulls through in the end with awesome food. Tell me somewhere else you can get everything homemade from a bunch of kids back in that tiny little kitchen with two burners! Glo would be proud to see her little shop still around and bumpin' with business after 20 years. Eggs Benedict, Corned Beef Hash and eggs, Buttermilk Bisquits and gravy. Everything from scratch and TO ORDER!!!! I keep trying to eat breakfast someplace else, but it never works out. Once a lover, always a lover. I forgive them all the wait, as I see many others do week in and week out. Hats off to a great job done!!

P.S. The trick is....call ahead and put your name on the list. It really irritates everyone else!!!

Oh Yea, Baby!!. Good everything...the place is small and there can be a wait on weekends but it is very worthwhile. the prices and food are good.

Best eggs benedict ever, friendly staff, worth the wait. Eggs Benedict is my absolute favorite breakfast food, and I used to order it every time I went out for brunch. However, Glo's has ruined me. No other breakfast place has even come close to the wonderful hollandaise sauce at Glo's, so now I only eat it there. Sure, there's usually a long wait on weekends, but just put your name on the list, ask how long, and browse the bookstore next door for a bit. Problem solved.

Best biscuits and gravy I've ever had.. We were curious about Glo's because a few weeks ago someone in The Stranger was being interviewed and just mentioned the place in passing, as though everyone knew about it. I've lived in Seattle off and on since birth, but I haven't been living in Cap. Hill most of the time, and I'd never been there. We went today (Sunday) around 1pm and had to wait outside just long enough for my boyfriend to have one smoke, then were seated near the back. The crowd was just perfectly hip (hey dude, Elvis Costello called and wants his look back), but that's life up here these days. Anyway the staff was super nice and the bottomless coffee true to it's name, without effort... but yeah, it took FOREVER for my unbelievably great biscuits and gravy to arrive. Hashbrowns - also great. And I am the worlds biggest hashbrown critic. Even the fresh grapefruit on the side was cut nice and yummy. My BF loved his omelet too. I suggest the specials (that's what we had) but they were out of a few of 'em so I guess get there before 1pm, and I also suggest bringing a sweater because the place is tiny and every time the door opens up it gets a bit chilly. As a side note the music was amusingly unpredictable. Someone in the kitchen had a lot of E.L.O. on their iPod, with some Muse, Wings, Seals & Croft and KORN!!! LoL And by the way, while the customer crowd was hipster, the staff was refreshingly NOT, nor was the decor.

Good Food slow service. I have eaten at Glo's a number of times over the last few months and their food has been consistently good. The service unfortunately has been consistently bad. However if you are not in a hurry and want a well made breakfast that tastes like something cooked at home I would recommend coming here. Even though the waits can be long they make sure to hook you up with plenty of coffee. Overall I really like this place and while I continue to branch out and try new restaurants I find myself continuously coming back.

This is a casual dinner with a quite colorful clientele. I would not recommend it for anyone who is going to feel out of place or uncomfortable around expressive youths finding their ways.

When Glo died the service died w/her. I was a loyal customer of Glo's for many years....damn best Corn Beef Hash in town. But now the service is terrible, wait staff is rude and dirty, I will never go back again...Quite frankly the love is gone.

A hungry brunch crowd waits patiently for tables every weekend at this Capitol Hill cafe.. The Scene
This tiny pie-wedge of a coffee shop buzzes with energy, from the open kitchen to the colorful crowd waiting outside. It's comfortable enough to please the grandparents, but quite popular with the diverse residents of Capitol Hill. Service is friendly, if occasionally harried.

The Food
Greasy-spoon purists should keep an open mind--all the diner classics are here, but with some welcome twists. Corned beef hash and eggs isn't the standard mesh--instead, chunks of fresh-cut corned beef and potatoes are mixed in a spicy tomato sauce. A homemade touch punches up waffles and pancake specials like the buckwheat with apple-rhubarb compote. Eggs are perfectly poached for the Benedict and slathered in a light, lemony hollandaise. Lunch standards get special treatment as well--the turkey sandwich dresses the fresh-roasted meat with cream cheese and cranberry sauce. Even the basic BLT scores high with fresh bread, crisp bacon and flavorful Dijon mayo.

Wouldn't pass health inspection.. I went there for a mediocre breakfast and as I was leaving, I was surprised to see the staff wipe down a table with a rag so dirty it left food on the table. The same staffer then flicked a piece of hash brown off of a water glass as he walked it out to a table. I too noticed the slow service and the staff chatting in the kitchen instead of refilling waters and coffee.

Haven't been back since, wouldnt meet you there if you owed me money.
