Conveniently located right next door to Harvard Exit Theater this old school Seattle room has a well priced happy hour everyday from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. but the best time to visit is on Wednesday when a juicy & hearty burger & fries sets you back just $5.59.
Terrrible food and even worse service.
Deluxe doesn't even deserve one star. We decided to try Deluxe for breakfast (they serve breakfast on the weekends only) and was totally disappointed in the food and service.
I a basic breakfast - scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage and an english muffin. The sausage was horrible, it was cooked in a steamer and had no flavor and was chewy. The english muffin was stale.
My husband had the Pile Up and ordered a side of sausage gravy. The cooks at this place obviously have no idea what sausage gravy is supposed to taste like. The gravy was bland and tasted like reused Alfredo sauce.
In addition to the terrible food, our waiter was rude. When he brought our bill, we asked if we could split the check and he grabbed (yes grabbed) the check out of my hand and complained about what an inconvenience it would be to do that. I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant.
I will not be eating at Deluxe again.
Delightfull Breakfasts. Have had two delightfull breakfast experiences at the Deluxe, when I happened to be in the area on a trip to Seattle. Very satisfying. Love the potatoes. Service was pleasant and attentive. Quite reasonable,
Awful!. Every time we go here the service and food gets worse and worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tonight we arrived w/ 3 close friends... server took forever to get to our table. Literally 20 minutes before she took our order.. way too long for drinks.. I ordered another round to go w/ the food- didn't arrive until well after I finished eating... food came- server forgot calamari.. and there was a hair in my boyfriend's burger.. awesome, had to send that back.. new burger came before calamari.. finally got drink.. calamari smells/looks/tastes like fish sticks (long & weirdly shaped-- not rings at all?? kind of like they ground up the squid and squished into strips ) really horrible service round and round.. I highly doubt anyone or anything can drag me back to Deluxe.
Perfectly prepared breakfast.. For the perfectly prepared breakfast, Deluxe is the place to go. The crispy peppered bacon, flawlessly browned home fried potatoes and homemade biscuit are the ideal compliment to the made to order eggs. On a sunny day you can enjoy this delightful morning fare at a table outdoors where you can watch all the passersby on Broadway.
Deluxe ont the Decline.
I have been a huge fan and regular patron of the Deluxe for over 6 years. After my most recent visit, will not return until I hear that they have made some real changes.
I talked four of my friends into joining me at the Deluxe for happy hour this past Thursday. We were seated almost immediately, which almost never happens, so I thought we were off to a good start. While we waited for our server, I noticed there was a new happy hour appetizer menu, which did not include their famous Mini Mac and Cheese. After 15 minutes (we timed it) our server (John) finally came by. I asked him about the change to the appetizer menu and he said it changed a couple of months ago. I told him that I was disappointing that they removed the Mac and Cheese from the happy hour menu, and requested that he pass this along to the management. He scoffed at me and said he would not pass the information along. I said I would fill out a comment card and he said that they did not have any as that would be bad for business.
John then proved himself to be up to par with the standards of the Deluxe serving staff of the past year or so. He took 10 minutes getting us our first round of drinks, and to finally get a soda refill we had to hold up the empty cup and one of the other servers helped us out. He never once came by just to check on us, only to bring the food and drink refill. He maintained a self righteous queeny attitude the entire time, which earned him a below average tip.
I have noticed the service at the Deluxe on the decline for a while now. With the recent changes to the happy hour menu, I am finding myself no longer enticed by the Deluxe. I have a feeling that waiting to get a table at the Deluxe will not be an issue for long.
Hey Deluxe Management,
If you are reading this I hope that you take the above statement into account. Also, for your own security you better not do away with Burgerama, your doors would close in no time!
Awesome Opossum. I've had many memorable nights here at Deluxe. I love this place! Burgers are pretty good, and make sure you go there late so you can get it for half price or whatever.
Bar first, grill takes a clear second. I have made occasional visits to the Deluxe for years. It is a great place for a beer or cocktail with friends with good atmosphere and friendly service. The food however requires that you proceed with caution, some choices are clearly better than others. Basic fried and grilled pub fare seem to dominate the menu. I ordered the french dip last night and received something akin to what I would expect in a high-school cafeteria. A plain chewy bun with a scant helping of chewy and dull brown meat inside and nothing else. Both ingredients appeared to come from a plastic package and were heated up before serving, very disappointing!. The fries, were decent, but don't bother paying nearly $10 for this meal, there are better options elsewhere for a comparable price if you are looking for good eats. I'd give the bar 4 stars, but the grill gets 2.
Great drinks, burgers, spuds. I love this place, yum! Fantastic drinks, a solid happy hour menu, and a great (only?) place to get a big ole' baked potato. Also, they have the BEST tartar sauce anywhere, it must be homemade. The burgers, potatoes, and fish n' chips are all great.
Decent Pub Grub. This is a pub/bar first and foremost and as far as pub food goes, I'm rarely disappointed here. I love the atmosphere. Cozy (because of the fireplace, dim lighting) and lively at once. I usually stick to the burger which is usually on target (with a side of to-die-for fries) but tonight for some reason they missed the spot. The waitress did not ask (and they usually do) how I liked it cooked and was off before I could tell her. It was way over-done and shriveled a la McDonald's. And for some reason they'd replaced they're usual scrumptious steak fries with dry, skinny ones. Skip the cheesecake. It's dryish texture will leave you gasping for water. Proceed with caution for anything that requires some culinary skill. Again, on a good night you can get a good, reasonably priced hit-or-miss burger but just drive about 6 blocks down the street to The Elysian on Pike for a burger that for about the same price is much, much, much, much better.
Try the tuna melt!. "foodielord"; it take 3-6 hours for the symptoms of bad food to appear, so maybe think about what you ate earlier that day instead of bashing an incredible restaurant. DeLuxe is the best grill in Seattle--I would recommend it to anyone.
