Bad food, sore stomachs
by bailey8683 at Citysearch
We were visiting Capitol Hill area and were excited to have lunch at a Greek restaurant. We should have taken the hint and dined elsewhere as the restaurant was completely empty when we walked in. We ordered the pita and hummus. Despite being tasty, it only came with one piece of pita bread. The hummus was also a little runny and flavorless. I ordered the gyro and my bf ordered spanakopita as his entree. The gyro was mediocre despite having very large portions. It came with mushy vegetables and overly salted, greasy potatoes. The spanakopita tasted as if it had been frozen and thawed many times before deep frying. We both left with upset stomachs that lasted until the next morning. Would not eat here again.
- Pros: Good service
- Cons: Overpriced, bad food
Very tasty

Just thought I would add a recent review of Byzantion as my experience was not like those of earlier reviewers. Our food was very good - excellent meat and bread, fresh vegetables. Maybe it's under new management? We found it while looking for a more down-market gyro place, and while it's pricier and fancier than that, we stayed and had a great meal. Recommended if you like authentic, well-prepared Greek food.
Not bad at all

I think this is pretty decent Greek food, for the price. Pretty simple, but tasty. I would stick to the basics, the Gyro was excellent.
Terrible Food

I have never written a review on CitySearch before but felt compelled to write a review for this restaurant because the food is so bad. My husband and I went to Byzantion Restaurant because we love Greek food. I wish I had read the other comments on CitySearch and avoided this place. The hummos and mousaka were bland and runny. The vegetables served with our entrees were soggy and old (reminded me of frozen vegetables past their prime). The entrees were passable but nothing special. I would not return to Byzantion even if I had a gift certificate. Karam's on 15th has much better food - there is no comparision. I left Byzantion worried that I would get sick from the meal I had just eaten and mad that I had spent almost $80 for the experience.
- Pros: located on Broadway
- Cons: expensive for lousy food
Good Food, Great Prices!

Great atmosphere and wonderful food at a very affordable price, I recommend their Lamb Souvlaki, very tender and comes with some yummy sides. The Kalamarikia use to be a standout, but they've changed to the ring shape which has less taste. Overall, $30 is what we usually end up spending and its worth it because the food is satisfying.
- Pros: Affordable, Variety, & Atmosphere
- Cons: Parking
