What People Are Saying About Joe Bar

In Short – Hidden on Roy Street across from the Harvard Exit, this small coffee shop exudes an undeserved in-the-know exclusivity--once inside, the service is as welcoming and friendly as can be. Students from nearby Cornish College for the Arts hunker down at the tables in the charmingly small loft or snag a coveted utside table and socialize. Well-made coffee drinks complement the popular crepes (sweet and savory), soups and toasted panini. – – Photo by Chris Daniel

Perfect for the cozy reader

by Wesley M , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

Located in a complex modeled after a brick country cottage, this is the "off the beaten path" cafe most coffee lovers dream about. Offering a short list of sandwich selections and mouth watering crepes, this venue is as much about the ambiance and decor as it is about the actual coffee.

In a space that covers a single story and small loft covering less than 500 square feet, mixed matched wooden chairs and an obvious interest and investment in the art community make this venue cozy and inspiring.

The crepe offering are very noteworthy, from spinach and bleu cheese to their PB&J (with a glass of milk). Just don't expect to get anything quickly. Service here is often a bit confused when they hit a rush. Lastly, don't forget about the free wi-fi.

  • Pros: Crepes, ambiance, art
  • Cons: Service, hours

New Winter Favorite

Besides the wonderfully warm and friendly staff, this place has great music, great hot chocolate, and free wifi! It's a unique and inviting atmosphere... my new favorite coffeehouse in Seattle.

Best place on earth

by aquacat at Citysearch

Really, I love this place. It's a beautiful setting in the midst of ugly capitol hill. It's rare to sit outside and get hasseled by crazies- which is amazing for the neighborhood. Fun people watching, lovely on a sunny day- I always feel as if I've been transported back to France or Victoria, BC. That euro-street cafe feel. The owner rents the sidewalk from the city so you can bring your beer or wine outside without having a fence around you, too. The beer selection is awesome: mostly belgian or french beers like duvel and la fin du monde. Nice wine selection too. The crepes are not authentic-style galettes but still good and I hear the paninis are delish. Salads are good too. There's something for everyone at Joe Bar- good art, expensive wine and beer and cheap wine and beer ($2.50 red stripes!), good music, rad people, awesome AWESOME staff and dog-friendly.

  • Pros: outside drinking and smoking AOK, nice beers, beautiful setting.
  • Cons: nothing, this place is perfect.

Good Coffee - okay service

by elegantbelle at Citysearch

The coffee here is great. Can't really speak to the food since I haven't tried it. I live in the neighborhood and go here often, but the barista has never asked my name and never remembers my drink...something I think is important in a city chock full of high-quality espresso. Service sets you apart. All the staff is friendly, though, so I can't really complain either. In general, this is a good coffee spot. I especially enjoy the rotating art displays.

  • Pros: good coffee, convenient
  • Cons: average service

Such acute spot

by neerotic at Citysearch

The people make all the difference here. Sure, the food is good and cheap, and the space is nice, but it would be nothing without the staff. It's my new hangout.

  • Pros: Cheap, Friendly, Convenient
