Editorial Review for Eastlake Zoo Tavern – by Scott Resch

The Scene
Just one sign the Zoo isn't the most elegant joint around: the enormous red dragon crouched next to the men's bathroom. Another: the collage of names scribbled in chalk on one of the back walls. It's an odd habitat, but one old-timers, first-timers and young locals have enjoyed since 1974, when the bar opened for business with most of the Zoo's current keepers.

The Draw
The Zoo has games, games and more games. In addition to five pool tables, three dart boards and two pinball machines, the bar boasts shuffleboard and one of the only snooker tables in town. There's also a back balcony that provides an in-your-face view of Lake Union. Blues tunes boogie through the speakers.

We read the reviews and expected to play pool for free, but they had got new tables, which are not free any more. It's 75cents/game. They have cheap beer, but that's about it. Once again, no free pool any more!

Pros: Cheap beer

Cons: Very mellow, Dingy

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

If you watch sex in the city, can't tell snooker from eight ball, and must have a chop chop salad with your wine then stay away from the Zoo. This is a tavern. Beer only, no food, and it has not been updated since well.....it opened. But they have $6.50 64oz glass pitchers of PBR all the time. They have games from computer to hard tip darts, shuffleboard, snooker, and several pool tables. In addition the bartender while not overly friendly are nice people who will loan you a cribbage board if you ask nicely. This is a great hangout bar, but not for the gals in Manolo Blahniks, or the guys in their yachting wear. For that head down the hill to Bluewater!

Pros: Cheap Beer, No Covers, Pool & Games

Cons: , No ladies, Very mellow

Quirky decor and games make one of Eastlake's oldest establishments an enduring favorite.  See the full editorial review.
