Editorial Review for Stumbling Monk – by Anna Roth
In Short
Maybe it's the dim lighting, or the indifferent attitude of the bartenders, or the obscure beers on tap, but something about this sliver of a Capitol Hill bar makes a person feel like they've been transported to a European city. Though it's in the heart of hipsterville, the bartenders are happy to help customers find a beer that they'll like, and the crowd is generally more friendly than not. Most groups claim the big wooden booths early and spend the night drinking beers and playing bord games; but there's usually a table or two open if a group wants to come in later. Expect to find old favorites like Hoegarten and Lindeman's Framboise Lambic side-by-side with interesting new ales; you may just find your new favorite.

The non-smoking aspect of the bar was enough to sell me on it. But, they also have the game Operation! Always a good time. There should be more smoke free bars in Seattle. The smokers don't mind stepping outside for their fix.
Pros: smoke-free, good beers, games
Cons: small

We stumbled onto (no pun intended) this little bar while looking for a place to meet friends on citysearch. What we found is a fantastic little place to get together and have a beer. The bar is a Belgian bar which serves mostly just Belgian beers. It makes me happy because it gives one an opportunity to drink beers that aren't Northwestern beers. A nice change of pace. In addition the place is non-smoking adn has board games to play. We finally have somewhere to go play games after the Sit 'N Spin closed. The only downside to this bar is a lack of food and no liquor, but who cares. There are tons of places to eat on Captiol Hill and with the variety of Belgian beers onhand, everyones drinking tastes can be met.
Pros: No Smoking, Atmosphere, Variety of Beers
Cons: No Food
