Editorial Review for Flower Lady – by Hannah Levin

In Short
This Eastlake shop is beloved primarily because of its comfort factor--it's been here forever, long before the condos sprouted and the dot-com bubble burst. It's not all nostalgia though; the Flower Lady's flowers are consistently fresh and sturdy, and she's always happy to help the amateur bouquet builder come up with a fetching creation.

The flower lady is fantastic for a drop by bouquet. As a matter of fact, I've used her for years for the occasional arrangement. Based on some reviews I've read, I decided to use her to do my bouquets and bouts for my wedding. The arrangements were beautiful, but working with the flower lady was a nightmare. I spent 3 hours choosing the design of my arrangements with her, only to get a panicked phone call the night before my wedding, because she was not sure which flowers to use. Also, our flowers weren't ready when my groom came to pick them up (because she wouldn't deliver them), 3 hours before our wedding. Although her prices are very low, it wasn't worth the extra stress.

Pros: Great value, gorgeous flowers

Cons: Customer service, no delivery

I love the Flower Lady. It used to be just a stand in a parking lot and I was so glad that they expanded into a full shop. I live in another state now but I still use ONLY the Flower Lady to send flowers home. I have also been on the receiving end of Flower Lady deliveries and they are SO beautiful. The arrangements are never stiff or tired looking. The best part about the staff is that they are really attentive regardless of how much you can spend. They are also patient with comments like: "Um, she's a really purple kind of person. Can you do something exuberant but not garish?", or: "It just has to smell like a real garden, okay?" Finally, my best flower lady story is that she once picked up a special treat at another shop (I won't say where so they don't get stuck doing it often) and had it delivered to my mom along with flowers. This was even after my cell phone hung up on the woman at least three times AND I needed it done the same day since I'm the kind of terrible daughter who would forget her mother's birthday until the actual day. This was all done very cheerfully. I looked like a super hero and it didn't even break the grad-school budget. If you live in Seattle, I recommend going in person. It's always fun and you will get a really great deal.

Pros: Unique arrangements, open on holidays, Also next to the best bakery in Seattle

Cons: May not always pick up the first time you call, worth it to call again!
