mixed bag. I had heard great things about this store. I was looking to purchase a guitar, and finally had a chance to check it out. I was never greeted, even after playing several different guitars for half an hour. I thought the selection was not great either (at least for guitars under the $3000 mark.) Any used guitars? Did I miss an entire room? They did have a great selection of accessories, unique instruments (not a single fretless banjo though), and books/cds. The music school did look like a great asset also with lots of options.

Jams and Instruments!. Great group lessons and jams.

Instruments in store will encourage you to pick them up and play. The staff is also very helpful, acomodating, and really had a knowledge in strings instruments. They also good in replacing guitar strings.

Excellent Source for Your Stringed Instrument. There is a definite parking challenge if you want to go to Dusty Strings. It was worth the multiple trips around the block just to find parking at a paid lot, because this store is awesome! You have to walk down some stairs from street level, but once you're in this cute, cozy shop, you will be impressed by their selection of guitars, ukes, and other stringed instruments. I was there to look at ukes. This was the first shop where someone seemed to be very informed about ukes and willing to listen to my needs!! Their ukes range from ukes for kids ($30) up to some as high as $1,000! Many choices of wood and brands. I'll be back for sure.

Folkie heaven at this throwback to pre-gentrification Fremont that strums to the tune of tricked-out acoustic instruments.. In Short
This warrenlike space beneath Fremont Avenue houses a selection of hammered dulcimers and folk harps crafted on the premises, as well as other non-electrified instruments ranging from top-of-the-line Collings guitars to tin whistles. Staff members specialize in genres such as bluegrass, American old-time and Middle Eastern, and are happy to pull down a mandolin or a banjo to give customers a crack at playing.
