What People Are Saying About Chile Pepper Restaurant

In Short – This cozy Wallingford home is popular with locals for its simple dishes that are primarily drawn from central Mexico and its casual, kitschy atmosphere. Aside from the expected burritos, nachos and combination plates, the kitchen is known for its traditional dishes such as seviche, mole and homemade tamales.

A Taste of Home

by xyglz at Citysearch

The Chile Pepper is an excellent restaurant. The dishes are fresh and uncompromisingly authentic. I know my Mexican food, and know that flautas, are simple and boring.

For those who truly want to experience Mexican food, I would recommend something more interesting and complex. Try the "Especialidades de la Casa." The Chiles Rellenos, the Pollo Adobado, and the Chile Guajillo are all tasty.

Bland food

by mavhayley at Citysearch

I went here with a friend for lunch and was unimpressed. I had heard good things about this restaurant. I ordered the flautas. The food was bland and boring. It was cooked nicely, but just had zero flavor. The service was decent, although we had to go up to the counter to pay - we waited at least 5 minutes after they took our plates away with no one bringing the bill to our table.

  • Pros: Good location, decent service - left the water pitcher at our table so we wouldn't get thirsty
  • Cons: Food was bland and boring

Not worth the wait or money

by jetts_mom at Citysearch

Very poor food. Makes Taco Bell look good. Yuck is about all I can say. The margaritas were made from some grocey store mix and I could not bring myself to finish it. Save your tummy and your time :o(

  • Cons: parking, hard to find Yuckey food

Good food, grumpy service

by sdebord at Citysearch

The meals are good, nice sauces and fairly quick. The man running the joint (seemed like the owner) seems like he could care less that you're there. I've gone twice, and both times he seemed annoyed if you didn't immediately order. He was also adamant that he wouldn't change the meat in a dish - I just wanted carne asada in my burrito instead of ground beef.

  • Pros: Food
  • Cons: Attitude

The Best Mexican Food in Town

by xygonzalez at Citysearch

I found that the food at the Chile Pepper to be refreshingly authentic. The dishes to come out of the kitchen are incontestably some of the most delectable Mexican dishes that I have ever had in the US, Mexico or anywhere else in the world. The service was prompt and attentive. The atmosphere was quaint and relaxed. I cant wait to visit again!!

  • Pros: superb food
  • Cons: parking can be dificult to find
