Prost! A German style neighborhood tavern

  • German Bier on Tap
  • Pub Food
  • Located in Greenwood

Prost! is a Greenwood pub serving beer and bratwurst since 2002. Cheap eats, such as the gurken salat, potato leek soup and curry wurst, offer a nice accompaniment to the main attraction--our German-portion beers. Beers come in .3 liter glasses for $3.25, half-liters for $4.25 and "the boot," a huge shoe-shaped glass, which runs at $17.50 for basic beer $18.50 for more specialty beers. Beers include a spaten lager, bitburger pilsner and the hacker-pschorr weisse (wheat beer).

Editorial Review for Prost! – by Shannon Borg

The Scene
On gray days, we need all the "Prost" (Cheers!) we can get. And there's a lot of that going on in this friendly neighborhood bar (in a mellow, Seattle kind of way). A colorful mural of the Oktoberfest girl watches over the scene as thirty-something Greenwoodians decide between Dinkel Acker Dunkel or Spaten Optimator. Haven't a clue? Bierfrau Angela or owner Chris Navarro can fill you in on German beer facts.

The Draw
One of the few places in Seattle with this many German beers on tap, and many beers exclusive to the establishment. A big Bavarian-style soft pretzel with spicy mustard makes you thirsty for more beer, while the tender curried bockwurst or bratwurst and tangy sauerkraut with caraway seeds satisfies the post-beer munchies.

What to Drink

Dare to order the "boot," the giant glass shaped like just that. It'll set you back a few Deutschmarks, but you'll have your own supply all laced up.

I have mixed feelings about this place. The beer is awesome and is the primary draw. The atmosphere is okay; the food fair but not great. The worst part is the service which is inconsistent. It just seems to be a mixed bag and usually the bartender is rude, non-conversational, cold, aloof and will ignore you if you let her. Occassionally there is a good bartender there who is friendly and service oriented. The owner should really do something to improve the service here. The odd thing is that Die Bierstube on Roosevelt, owned by the same guy, has much better service. More often than not the bartender at Prost has the unmistakable look of someone who would rather be elsewhere. But, as I mentioned, the beer is good!

Pros: Good German Beer

Cons: Very inconsistent and often very poor service

Prost is one of our favorite mellow bars - a nice change from some of the loud, happening places in Seattle. My friends and I grabbed a table and went up to the bar in groups to order a beer. The bartender was so rude to each of us, we almost left. As members of our party came back to the table, we all had the same thing to say "WOW, she was rude!" She ignored half of the group while obviously helping anyone else she could. I asked "which is the lightest beer" and she rolled her eyes at me and walked away. I was shocked. She then came up to us and said "did you make up your mind yet?" never once did she smile, make eye contact, or try to help us in a professional way. It put a damper on the night and gave us a good reason to never go back on a Saturday night.

Pros: Fun atmosphere and great beer

Cons: Terrible service
