Veg heaven - with caveats. One of the (few) great vegetarian places in the Seattle area. Food is consistenly good, a bit skimpy on the portion sizes. Not a bad wine list, including organic choices. Two warnings- it's usually noisy so not romantic, and their online reservation system has been unreliable for me, make sure you get that confirming voicemail!
Best Vegan food, worst Noisy ambience. This was simply the best food I've ever tasted, vegan or otherwise. I had the ground broccoli cheese pizza with sweet tomato marmalade & raisins with olives.Wow. The service was fair to good, the desserts excellent. My friend thought her food was exquisite, but we both were glad to leave because of the God-awful high noise level ever heard outside of The Boeing Riveter's room, where at least one poor riveter a month goes screaming outside from acoustic overload. Too Darned Loud!
Family Friendly.
I have been dining at Carmelita for over 5 years and have enjoyed many wonderful evenings there with my partner, even before we had children. Now we have two, and have found the staff at Carmelita to be very accommodating, friendly and courteous. Besides they have a children's menu that actually has vegetables on it!
Carmelita dishes up some of the best veggie options in this city and continues to do so with style and finesse.
Dissapointing and Unimaginative menu.
I find Carmelitas comfortable, casually elegant dining room as well as the food presentation to be a delight, but that is where my enjoyment of this restaurant stops.
My group sampled all of the main course offerings, and only the gnocchi got a positive review. The mains generally lacked imagination and were devoid of culinary interest.
The chickpea cake was presented beautifully and, though the cake itself was granular and bland, comes served with a tasty roasted garlic red pepper sauce. However, the cake comes topped with chutney that clashes with every flavor in the dish. This chutney is utterly revolting, and the chef should not serve it.
There are some menu items that are well worth a visit, however. Visit Carmelita for appetizers and dessert, but, to avoid disappointment, dont bother with a main course.
User review by poseidonmike. Best vegetarian & vegan in town, little pricey for frequent dining.
Fun and fulfilling . . .. I don't think you could ask for a nicer vegetarian restaurant. The intricate and unique decor, plus the excellent food make this a great place to return to, even if you budget would only allow it occasionally. Although not too pricey, taking in a starter and dessert really makes for a special meal here, even if it makes it expensive. The front room is a little loud due to the tall ceiling, but I didn't find this too bothersome.
Great.... I am so thrilled with Carmelita... I'm a carnivore by design, but found the vegitarian dishes here to be complex and interesting, also, just plain delicious. One of the many downfalls of most vegitarian restauants seems to be a pre-occupation with meat and poultry. Carmelita seems to have lost this pre-occupation and focused on creating wonderfully tasty and satisfying entrees that would appeal to anyone. Perfect. My date and I were both so happy with service, atmosphere and food. I cant wait to go again.
A pleasant surprise.
Amazing veggie food. presentation and dishes were great.
One caveat though that it isnt a formal kinda place or maybe i was expecting it to be and it turned out different
yummy food..
The artichoke soup comes with the savory ice cream and tastes simple superb.
The waitresses are helpful with explaining the complex terms in the menu. We ordered about 7 dishes and liked all of them......
One of Seattle's Top Restaurants. Carmelita ranks as one of Seattle's top-restaurants; the fact that it serves exclusively vegetarian cuisine is secondary to this fact. Carmelita consistently whips up exquisitely delicious dishes with seasonal ingredients. If only this restaurant wasn't so expensive, I'd dine there regularly. Try the antipasti platter for appetizer and save room for the fabulous desserts.
