Special. The food is to die for. You taste each ingredient as though it's being both individually featured as well as thoughtfully combined and complimented by the other ingredients; kind of like eating stoned... and everything is fresh... (local and organic), beautiful presentation, the wait staff is friendly, the atmosphere lovely and the artwork interesting. The only thing that sucks is that it's too pricey to eat here all the time. But on the other hand that's what makes it a special treat.

Nicely Presented Food. We took my vegetarian brother-in-law to Carmelita when he was visiting from the Midwest and he appeared to really enjoy it. My wife and I are non-vegetarians, but we still enjoyed ourselves.

The ambiance was excellent (although the tables could be spaced a little farther away from each other), we still had room to chat and enjoy our meal (let's settle on calling it cozy).

The service was good and the food was presented very well (it looked delicious), but the taste (to me) was just "above average".

Overall, I'd have to say that I would recommed Carmelita to a friend, especially if you are looking for a good atmosphere with some panache.

always leave happy. My husband and I consider this our special restaurant. We absolutely love Dan Brauns creations and the service and ambience is wonderful. I recommend being seated in the cozy garden patio.

One of my very favorites. This resturaunt has extremely good food in a nice fun and clean atmosphere. You can eat indoors, or on the outdoor garden patio. Both vegan and vegetarian options. This is one of my top 3 or 4 favorite resturaunts of all time. It is moderately expensive, but well worth it. It is a good place to take non-vegetarians as well.

Carmelita rocks!. I agree that the citysearch reviewer is off the mark. I have been going to Carmelita for quite some time and I don't remember the tofu dish they review. It is time for an updated review. Having said that, Carmelita is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Not just by vegetarian restaurant standards, but by any standards. We returned from a trip to Europe recently and I kept comparing the (fantastic) restaurants we went to on our trip to Carmelita's menu. Some outstanding things we've had recently: porcini agnoletti with a sweet corn puree, roasted asparagus and baby potatoes with vanilla been dressing, portobello/creamed leek/fontina pizza, ricotta gnocchi with tapenade crouton .... hungry yet? You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The dessert that I keep going back for is a warm banana upside down cake. Top notch! If you haven't been yet, go!

Beats most restaurants, veggie or not!. I am wowed. Carmelita puts the lie to the notion that vegetarian food involves some kind of sacrifice or limitation. Their menu is far more creative than the average restaurant's, and the food is simply outstanding. I'm an accomplished cook, and it's rare for a restaurant to pass the "this is better than I could make" test. Carmelita makes it easily. A truly outstanding vegetarian restaurant, Carmelita is a lesson -- and a comeuppance -- to other vegetarian restaurants that think not using meat means using granola. Anyone, vegetarian or not, will have an excellent meal here. Prices are quite fair. The wine list is okay but has many holes and inventory problems. Service is occasionally brusque but usually outstanding.

Mouthwatering Vegetarian Fare. Carmelita constantly stuns me with creative combinations of incredibly flavorful food. This is probably the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever been too and one of the best restaurants period. While not cheap, Carmelita consistently delivers beautifully presented, mouthwatering, seasonal dishes. The menu changes depending on what produce is available and in season and the owners make an effort to procure local produce whenever necessary. If you're on a budget, go for appetizers or a pizza and a dessert. The antipasto platter my favorite standby -- full of distinctive, flavorful cheeses, roasted garlic, a variety of cured olives and sweet roasted red pepper spread served with delicious, warm, flatbread. The warm chocolate muck-muck is a luscious, super-chocolatey dessert that will alone keep you coming back again and again.
