Unfortunate visit. NOT veggie friendly.
On a pleasant afternoon visit to Pig 'N Whistle on a mellow Saturday, my husband and I enjoyed a snack. We ordered PBR on tap, french fries, and a wedge salad without bacon. We are vegetarians. We
enjoyed our nibble and decided to go back tonight for dinner with friends. All of our friends are vegetarians, and remembering that our meal was veggie friendly, we thought it would be ok. WRONG. We found out AFTER we ordered veggie burgers, and only after asking if the fries were vegetarian (our friend had a sneaking suspision) we found out that they were fried in duck fat. Our waitress found this hysterical, while all of us (mostly my husband and I who had eaten them unknowingly) were horrified that she did not offer up this information after we all ordered vegetarian burgers. We all substituted salads and were charged for them. Our meal and beer took 30 minutes to arrive after ordering them. Our waitress finally arrived with only one beer, unsure if any of us ordered it,. Our other beers arrived 10 minutes later after requesting them again. One friend had to leave because it was taking too long and we were still charged for his beer. My burger still arrived with fries, even after I specifically substituted them.
When leaving a friend spoke to the owner who seemed super uninterested about her complaint and told her that the fries were NOT fried in duck fat, so...who to believe? What is the truth?
We were really excited that P 'N W was going to reopen and now we are very disappointed. $55 later for two of us, lukewarm veggie burgers, extra charge for salads, long wait, and unimpressed! Not to mention eating meat unwillingly and unknowingly while being a vegetarian. I know many people who would love the duck fat fries, and I don't mind, but I think they should advertise that.…
Terrible Food and Atmosphere. Having read all the good reviews of the new owners and operators of Pig N Whistle we tried it for lunch today. It was the greasiest food we've ever eaten. My husband had a mediocre burger and my fish (with fish and chips) was dry and tastless. The fries were dripping in what tasted like old grease. The atmosphere is just an ordinary bar with a big screen TV, music blaring, and riduculously bad art on the walls. We live in the neighborhood and thought the resurrection of this restaurant meant a new neighborhood pub with good food and atmosphere. On top of all this, it was overpriced; my fish and chips was over $13.00. Ridiculous. If you want good food and beverage on the Ridge, go to 74th Street Ale House where they know how to cook a good meal.…
New menu. New look. None of the heart.. Been in twice to see Rene, but he's not getting any nighttime shifts or something. Will try again this week and see if he's behind the bar. Been way to long since my little buddy made me my signature Jack n Coke!…
Bad service? How about NO service???. We were really excited to try a new place which had been given good reviews... we walked in and sat down... 15 minutes later we still hadn't even been noticed. There were only 2 other tables and we were literally being ignored... the server walked within 3 feet of me and didn't make eye contact or say "I'll be right with you..." it was really weird more than anything... so we decided to go somewhere else... as we were leaving another patron said " you guys giving up?" and when we said yep he replied "I don't blame you..." Do not go here if you want to eat or drink anything other than water... We headed down to Wing Dome and had awesome service and great burgers!…
Great menu, friendly service. I've eaten breakfast here several times (their french toast is particularly good), but hadn't oredered off their dinner menu until last weekend. Lots of variety, which I love! Nice atmosphere, friendly people, convenient location, etc. I'm sure I'll return many times.…
