The best English & French furniture that the deplorable currency exchange rate will allow.
To review this wonderful furniture/antique shop is tricky, as very major international currency rates determine what you will find there. Example, if I wish tio buy a men's chest of drawers, in perfect condition, made in England circa 1930, it would probably cost 700 british pounds. Which as of September 2007 would run $1400 US dollars. The friendly proprietor goes to the UK constantly, steering away from the more expensive London houses towards stores and dealers in the English north. The miracle is, despite the currency, he still comes away with good stuff.
And our house is stacked with it. Prices are not cheap, but again, in England 2007 a cup of Starbucks coffee will set you back $8 or 9 US dollars. I believe this business should be supported, and I'm sorry that my limited finances and the rising value of the British pound have meant that I can rarely buy from them again.
Sophisticated antiques, kitschy kitchen stuff and '60s souvenirs thrown in for fun..
In Short
Step through the knee-high swinging dog doors that keep the shop's mascot off the street and you're in a long room filled with dark, rich woods. This is not shabby chic, instead, you might find a pristine antique wardrobe like the one in your great aunt's brownstone. The back is filled with mahogany armoires, dining sets, and hallway accessories. Upstairs you'll find old gardening tools, chairs, distressed dressers, lace blankets and vintage quilts.
