Steaks are legendary, prime beef cooked with care in chef Eric Hellner's kitchen, accompanied by something from the award-winning wine list. Expensive and worth it. If you're on a budget, go sit in the bar for happy hour. The burger is terrific and the bartenders offer welcome pairing advice.

I'm not the biggest steak fan, but I have had one or two here that nearly converted me. The sides--the gratin, creamed spinach, fried artichokes--are the real deal. If you're really lucky, you can talk the bartender into pouring a little Makers Mark over your MM ice cream, which comes with a huge slice of carrot cake. You won't leave hungry, that's for damn sure. Most of the staff has been around for a decade or longer, which means this is the place to come if you want some of the best service in Seattle. They're pros.

Obviously noted for some of the city's best steaks and chops, also plates up top-notch salad and soups, most notably one of the best Caesars and French onion soups in town. Premium happy hour starting early.

Hands down the worst steak ever. For a steak over $50, one should not have to saw....and I mean saw through it. Mashed potatoes were very obviously thinned down with oversalted chicken stock.
The Met if for tourists who don't know any better.
It is beyond me how this place manages to draw a crowd serving such overpriced, less than mediocre food.
Best Happy Hour in TOWN!. Considering this is a high end restaurant they have an awesome Happy Hour. No drink specials but the FANTASTIC food is a good enough deal for me!
The food and service doesn't match the prices. In some respects it was better than The Keg. In some respects it was worse than The Keg. For a $50 steak not including any sides I thought I would be licking the steak juice off my plate and that the waiter would be near thespian, but in reality a waiter at $100 a head steak house is no more or less likely to be happy with where life has dropped them off than a waiter at a $30 steak house. The steak tasted like something I would make at home and I don't know how to cook. This was supposed to be the highlight of the night and we left feeling screwed out of several hundred dollars and a couple hours of our time so it really did ruin our evening. No matter how badly The Keg might treat you, you will never leave feeling like you've lost much. I definately think this restaurant benefits from name recognition and a lack of competition. I preferred Ruth's Chris' dishes and I plan to visit El Goucho soon. Don't make this restaurant your first choice.
Best dowtown happy hour!. I never would have expected an expensive restaurant to have the most affordable and best value happy hour in all of downtown, but they literally do. Delicious bacon wrapped steak skewers and fried artichoke hearts. Not to mention the inexpensive oyster shooters with some of the largest oysters I've ever seen. Order a drink or two and the happy hour cheesebuger and fries and you can get out of there for under $15. No joke. Food is cheap and quality, which you don't find often.
Response to Overated and you'll pay for it. I've never been to the Met, but I have heard ONLY wonderful things about this place. Please be cautious when reading these reviews. This woman says she got sick 3 hours after eating a prosciuto salad. You can't get food posioning til 24 hours after you've eaten the bad food. I think lots of people just like to complain. the manager probably seemed insincere when she called back because he knew she din't know what she was talking about.
Excellent! Excellent!. Four of us women flew up to Seattle for a little get-away. I was told the best place to eat in town was the Metropolitan Grill. We had the absolute best service, best entree, best desserts, best drinks ever! The filet mignon was to die for - the halibut was delicious and the copper river salmon was absolutely exquisite! We decided if we ever visit Seattle again we will definitely want a repeat of this scrumptious meal! Our waiter divided our steak and fish right near our table and we all ordered our side dishes so each of us could serve ourselves. We had scalloped potatoes, twice baked potatoes, creamed spinach and marinated mushrooms and salads of course. Each dish was done perfectly. Then, we shared desserts. Magnificent experience! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Don't be impressed. (you'll be sorry and you'll pay for it!!).
My boyfriend and I splurged for a "fancy" dinner. He loves steak, so we to the Met. Our waiter was decent and my prosciutto salad was tasty... until 3 hours later when I was hugging the toilet and wishing ate elsewhere. It is very humiliating the once in a blue moon you buy an expensive dinner, you end up getting sick and sleeping on the bathroom floor all night.
I work in the food service so I'm not very picky. During dinner I was charmed by the predictable ambiance made of green velvet, gold railings and a valet service. And I didn't mind the silly looking guy in a tuxedo lurking around talking up a $20 bottle of wine for $75. Or that we ordered makers mark and got bakers for $20 more. When I got home and was feeling sick, all those memories became suspect. My god, PLEASE throw it out if it's past date!! I am very disappointed in this place that specializes in meats AND that serves it with a very high price tag (you'd think they could afford to throw it out!). I have no idea how they maintain a good reputation. There are TONS of fantastic restaurants in Seattle, but don't let the allure Metropolitan fool you.
And when I called to let them know about my "experience" they were much less than sincere, and apologized only because they had to. I'll pick vegetarian place next time. Or anywhere else and be much richer for it.
A second home to Seattle's power players, this beloved institution serves up surefire steak dinners..
The Scene
The unofficial second office of Seattle's biggest-budget businessmen, this old boys' club steakhouse has long held the top spot on many an expense account for its friendly, capable service and dependably terrific steak. Once through the tall mahogany front doors, the busy world of 2nd Avenue gives way to tuxedo-clad maitre d's, plush, overstuffed booths and cuts of beef displayed as red-meat art at the reception desk.
The Food
Memorable starters include fried artichoke hearts and ice-cold fresh oysters on the half shell. Light eaters can pick at the generous spinach salad with almonds, bacon and Jack cheese or try the juicy grilled portobello entrée, but those with carnivorous instincts should head directly to the major meats. Bank on steaks arriving as ordered--maybe a wee bit on the rare side--served with the city's most sinful mashed potatoes. Seafood is also done surprisingly well.
Go to the bar and get the steak appetizers and skip the dining room. The bar is really where it's at unless you are trying to impress your girl on the third date and need a little help to get to 3rd base. Make sure she's not a vegitarian first cause if she is you'll be going home alone. The filet can't be beat though.
