Quirky waterfront treat!. This shop is one of the highlights of every trip I take down to the waterfront piers in downtown Seattle. What a fun shop! There are all sorts of fun treats, "touristy" souvenirs, and other fun items to take away. This is the perfect place to stop before or after hitting up the aquarium or while strolling along the waterfront. The mummies in the back are such a cool "spooky" treat to behold and the shop is just fun to browse in, regardless if you purchase or not.
Curiosity killed the cat, and now it's preserved in a jar in this waterfront trinket shop..
In Short
Tucked away in this waterfront shop is a collection of weird curios ranging from two mummified bodies (one the bullet-holed body of a prospector) to authentic Ecuadorian shrunken heads. The store and its strange contents have been a waterfront fixture since it opened as a museum of natural wonders in 1899. The few items that remain from that collection provide a quirky backdrop for the real purpose of this "free museum"--selling memorabilia.
Our Family's Regular Stop! :-). I've been visiting the Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe since I was a kid every time we travelled thru Seattle. As parents of 7, my husband and I have enjoyed taking our kids there at least once every year, since we spend alot of 'down time' in Seattle travelling as airline non-revs. As soon as we are "stuck" in Seattle for the day, everyone's first idea is to head to downtown Seattle for this Shoppe and its wonderful curiosities. :-)
