The Scene – The Alexis is much more than outward appearances suggest. Occupying most of its block on First Avenue, its only street-front manifestations are two compact lobbies on First Avenue and Madison Street. Step inside and you enter a friendly, low-key world reminiscent of small-to-medium European hotels, with cheery colors and stucco walls. The Sultan of Brunei wanted to book the entire hotel for APEC in 1993; other visitors had reserved rooms, so the sultan offered to buy the whole property. Eventually, the other guests were housed elsewhere. The hotel's ownership didn't change,…

Romantic Getaway Best

by janetstonge

I stayed at the Alexis in January for a romantic weekend with my very hot boyfriend. They didn't have our room ready, so they bought us drinks in the Library Bar until they did! The bartender was great that day and the cocktails led to ........The second day, he (the bartender, silly) was L*O*A*D*E*D beyond belief but was still functional. Such is the charm of Seattle. The room was impeccable. The view was georgeous. I loved the art...you'd have to be a narrow-minded bigot not to. The staff were so great. The bed was, well, worth the trip. Go. Enjoy.

  • Pros: Pet-friendly, parking, ambience, comfort
  • Cons: Rain

Best Service in any hotel I have every stayed

by lstar19652003

Spent 9 nights at Alexis and had the greatest service I have ever had. Staff is amazing in the response time to a request, great with tips on where the locals eat, shop and what to do in the city. Hotel caters to any whim you may have and was available for you 24/7. Would not even consider staying anywhere but here when traveling to Seattle. Nice size rooms. clean was an understatement and the staff is best in any class.

  • Pros: Location to market, cleanlienss, service
  • Cons: Homeless in area

experience varies

by cccc

Because we live 1 block away, we have put up most of our guests at the Alexis. Their reactions vary to loving it to being disgruntled. This applies to room decoration, noise and service! Comments are: some rooms are hideously decorated ie. pop art. One couple said the service was bad the whole stay, housekeeping took away personal items and then they could not be found. No apologies/compensation offered. Lastly the noise. When I make reservations, I do not find the staff helpful. Figure that!

More recently because of the mixed reactions and my own difficulties, I have been booking my guests at Inn at the Harbor Steps. There it is perhaps a bit more homespun. But they bill themselves as an inn, not a full-service hotel.

  • Pros: location, some nice rooms
  • Cons: , uneven service
