Editorial Review for Hardwick & Sons, Inc. – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
From the street outside Hardwick's in the University District, it's hard to dispute the story that more than 60 years have passed since the windows were last cleaned. Inside, things are marginally better. Weak fluorescent light or the sun through yellow visquine illuminates a 10,000-foot maze of narrow, crowded shelves, half-emptied boxes and pegboard displays. Folks around here keep sweeping to a minimum and don't go in for marketing. But that's the point, it's the always-surprising, often-inexpensive merchandise--not an image--that's for sale.

The Goods
Sharpening stones and mattresses, tooth chisels and prissy kerosene lamps, carving knives and used blenders with no carafes. Fifty types of hammers, 30 different Japanese handsaws and the largest selection of planes in the Northwest are just a few reasons many consider this strange shop the best hardware store in the city.

Family owned hardware store, they have pretty much everything and are very convenient for anyone in the u district area. Always reasonably priced, and have a good used products section. Sometimes hard to find what you're looking for, but definately the first place I check for any household and repair needs.
