Editorial Review for Cellophane Square – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
A spectrum of music fans hang here, some looking for Britney's latest, while other's hunt for indie releases sold on consignment. Drop by when you have time to spare--or kill. Cellophane Square stocks a comprehensive selection of new and popular discs--you can get Blonde Redhead or 'N Sync--but this chain's biggest virtue is rewarding determined shoppers who start at "A" and flip all the way to "Z."

Insider Tips
When to GoFrequent in-store appearances make Saturdays a good time to come in and browse the racks, as you may find yourself listening to live indie pop instead of being at the mercy of the counter staff's taste.

I'm writing my review more than 2 1/2 years after the last review, and longer than 3 1/2 years after the review before that. Things certainly are NO better at this store now. The storefront itself is nice, but their prices for both new and used discs and LPs are average or greater, therefore you'd think they would try to be exceptional in some way. The staff barely glances at you and never says a word; even at the register, not even a smile. I've been going there for a few years now and I've always had a below average experience. There are so many other places I'd rather go.

I agree with gokings and that review was written nearly a year ago. Cellophane Squares staff has not improved their attitude in fact, it has gotten worse. The employees never smile and you are never greeted when you step into the store except when they generate enough energy to tell you that they need to keep your backpack behind the counter. The unfriendly attitude is especially true for the night crew. It makes me sad because I have been shopping at Cellophane Square since 1979 and it used to be the greatest music store in the Northwest. It used to run by a knowledgeable staff that was nearly overeager to share their music awareness. Their attitude was infectious and I would always walk out knowing a little more about music than when I went in. Now, youd be lucky to get a nod from one of the sedate employees.
Pros: decent selection
Cons: unfriendly staff
