What People Are Saying About Irish Immigrant

In Short – On weeknights, this two-story pub and eatery is home to a cross section of Irish folks with heavy accents sipping on a Guinness and University District students shooting pool. The place is owned and run by Irish transplants--it's likely a few of them will be around playing the fiddle or singing traditional Irish folk music. Weekend evenings fill this place with the ever-present college crowd that tends to get pretty loud and pretty drunk, but weekdays generally draw a more laid-back group.

not recommended and on 1/9/09 there was a gunfire outside the bar.

This is not an Irish Pub anymore, it's a crappy college bar that's trying to be a night club. I only went here once and it was too loud to talk inside. When I went to get some fresh air I was greeted by the smell of up-chuck and urine, as some of the patrons don't know how to use the bathroom. It was gross and there are better places to get a drink or go dancing with friends.

(Added to the review at later date) And to top it off on 1/9/09 there were shots fired outside the bar. Go to this place at your own risk. I hope they shut it down, it's not safe.

Bad customer service

by jackelinquyen at Citysearch

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE ... something like this could happen to you.

i got kicked out and they (security ppl, owner) would not escort me back in to get my coat and grab my friends to leave. i ended up walking home alone at 12:30am in the university district where I could have been robbed and other stuff they won't let me list on here. all i had on me were my keys and my id b/c my cell and money was in my coat.

most places would allow you to get your stuff. this says a lot about their customer service. they don't care about what happens to the people who go to their establishment. the owner said, "I don't care, you bought drinks from us and that's all i care about."

moral of the story: they don't care about you so why should you care enough to go to this place. I know i'm never going to this place again.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: the owner was unreasonable and they provide bad customer service

Terrible.

by margot03 at Citysearch

To put it bluntly, the Irish Emigrant is a terrible bar. What was once a beautiful neighborhood Irish pub has transformed itself into something completely different under its new management. It's more of a nightclub now, than anything else. Gone is the quaint Irish band that sat in the booth near the entrance playing their violins. They have been replaced by bartenders that spin bottles and cocktail shakers. I swear I saw a velvet rope outside the bar one night.

I didn't realize this place had changed, and brought some friends one night. It was actually embarrassing.

This is a terrible bar, even by the Ave's standards. I'd actually prefer to go to Earl's... That's something I never thought I'd say.

  • Pros: Next to several bars that are more fun.
  • Cons: bad atmosphere, terrible service, NOT AN IRISH PUB.

No longer an Irish bar

by Raintc at Citysearch

The review of this bar and the Galway Arms across the street are dated and irrelevant- both bars have new ownership and are simply not Irish bars anymore witht the exception of the old signage and decor. This is simply a college bar and not a bad one. The Galway has got a rough, death metal feel and is a scene to be avoided.

  • Pros: Neighborhood pub, local bands
  • Cons: Gone is the traditional Irish pub feel

Good food, good beer, unpleasant waitress

by jazz247 at Citysearch

Good food, good beer, but waitress gave an attitude when ask to split a bill. While the food is good, there's it's no compensation for overall unfriendly and snappy services.

  • Pros: Good food, good beer.
  • Cons: Bad service.
