In Short – Home-style soups, created daily from fresh ingredients, include white bean and curried lentil. Sandwiches such as turkey and Havarti (heaps of turkey and sliced carrots on fresh panzanella bread) and meat loaf are also offered. Daily specials can include options like roasted eggplant or hot ham and cheese. Coffee from Dillanos Roasters is served, as well as an Ovaltine mocha.

Awesome

I've been going here since last year and recently the new owner made some noticeable changes. The cafe has a new look now, though I was a bit sad that they got rid of some menus, but the sandwiches are still tasty and got bigger. I love their raspberry scones especially; they are home-made. The drinks are good at a low-cost and Ugly Mug has become one of my favorite place to hang out.
BEST raspberry scone ever!

I LOVE scones and this little cozy cafe has the BEST raspberry scone!!!
I just can't get enough of it! I love their decor and the atmosphere. Friendly people and good lattes and sandwiches too. This is now my favorite little spot.

Pretty bad
by tandj at Citysearch
We went to the Ugly Mug because it was listed and recommended in CitySearch - bad choice!! The half sandwiches are little more than finger sandwiches, the bread was hard and overtoasted, and the service was mediocre. We had a meatloaf sandwich and the slice of meatloaf was about 1 mm thick. Also it smelled faintly of old lady and was blasting muzak from a radio station that wasn't coming in clearly. We will not be going back.
Great U-District lunch spot!

I was expecting more of a restaurant, but the coffee house style of Ugly Mug was a welcome surprise. The kitschy art and mis-matched furniture perfectly complimented the homemade-gourmet food. The menu is small but satisfying, and the daily specials always hit the spot. They also have excellent coffee and an Ovaltine latte. Delicious!
- Pros: friendly staff, good atmosphere
- Cons: parking
