Editorial Review for The Monkey – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
Within 30 feet of both Pete's Pizza and Dante's, Monkey Pub can't claim to offer the neighborhood's best food or fun. After all, tasty calzones are Pete's department and tons of video and bar games are Dante's. Monkey's attitude: Who cares? For one thing, if you want to hang out, have a beer and shoot pool in a nearly frat-free atmosphere in the U-District, Monkey Pub can't be beat. For those sick of the same old bar music (didn't the petition banning Steve Miller's Greatest Hits get signed into law?), the alt/indie jukebox is also a welcome change of pace.

The Draw
Even though food isn't the focus, the pub does have a small menu with a surprise special or two. As for libations, there are several beers on tap--ranging from PBR to Fat Tire--and a full bar.

I went there after work with some friends and had a great time. It was trivia night - too funny. The service was great - very relaxed atmosphere - we had a great time. They where easy to find - next door to an awesome tattoo parlor - in a mellow area (not scetchy, like it is on the AVE.) cheap drinks & food. We had an awesome time & will definitely go back!

Pros: neighborhood

Cons: parking

This is the neighborhood bar you always wanted but never had. The jukebox is the best in Seattle and rotates. The staff of the Monkey are great people, pouring great drinks..especially Anthony. Greats taps, vintage rock/seattle decor and live bands on the weekends. Everytime we go back we are welcomed as regulars. Seattle should be so lucky to have a place like this.

Pros: Great Beer, Bartenders, Jukebox

Cons: parking

Beer, pool and a relaxed, alt-friendly attitude are Monkey's business.  See the full editorial review.
