Editorial Review. Traditional and casual Chinese cuisine makes this restaurant a comfortable and inviting Ballard choice.

Chinese comfort food. This is the Chinese food I remember from my childhood, and no matter how gourmet I may think I've become as an adult (Szechuan this, Haka that) this is the comfort food I often crave. I like the waitstaff here, and have had success asking them what they recommend. Nice takeout, too. Louie's is for when you just have to have a nice won ton soup and egg foo yung!

Stay with what you know . . .. The dishes on this menu are either great or generic. There is no real middle ground. Things I recommend: Dry-Fried Cantonese Steak, Orange Beef, Hum Bows (as an appetizer), and maybe Chicken Fried Rice. Found the Bok Choy dish disappointing as it is all stalk and no leaf. I like the decor its like a 70s time warp. Service is cute lots of older ladies running around, generally very attentive. Ordering over the phone for p/u orders can be a hassle in terms of communication, but whatever. Parking is usually not a problem.

User review by kristan515. Our waitress was terrible. It took us like 30 minutes to get a Coke after we ordered it. Also the sweet and sour chicken was good but the chicken fried rice wasn't very good. The eggflower soup was the most bland I have ever tasted! We are not going back!

Good Chinese food in Ballard. My regular meal: seafood potstickers, BBQ hum bow, Shanghai Noodles with beef, and sweet and sour pork. I am never disappointed; the food is always good. I lived in Asia for a year and LOVED the food over there... I find Louies to be a good replica of SE Asian cuisine.

I do have to say that I didn't enjoy the food in their combo meals. The food was unimpressive. So if you want a good meal (and you know a little bit about good Asian food) then don't order the combo meal. On the other hand, my boyfriend (who is far from adventuresome when eating (he leaves dim sum meals hungry)) really enjoys the combo meal. It's a safe meal for the granny's.

My boyfriend does love the fried bananas and the fried apples for dessert. He orders a side of vanilla ice-cream and is in heaven.

Quality and consistancy. Louie's is a Ballard favorite and has been for years. You can always count on excellent service and delightful dishes. It is a great place to take the family as well as a wonderful night out with a friend or a special someone. The lounge is large and friendly. The fireplace makes it even more inviting and romantic. They serve food until late and don't rush you out the door. If you are a single female in the area it is a safe place to enjoy a drink and a pleasant conversation with the bartender or fellow barmates. Can you tell I love this place?

This is the "best"?. No. It is very plain Chinese cuisine, bland taste, small portions, and a very limited menu. 3 meals later, (since this restaurant continues to receive high ratings I kept trying different dishes) I would not recommend this restaurant for anyone wishing a wide selection of well-flavored and medium-portioned cuisine.

A Standard. We love this "joint." Where else can you expect the owner to come to your table and order a special dish for you just because he want you to try an unusual Chinese spice? We've been coming here for years, and the orange peel scallops are tops!

There are better Chinese restaurants in Seattle, but $ for $, this place is our standard for a Chinese restaurant. The service is instantaneous, if a little "saucy!" Food is reliable if unexciting, and we go when we are tired and don't want to get all dressed up.

Yuck!!!!. This place is terrible, i have gone 2 times and both times the food has been horribly bland, and overcooked. I am not a food critic, but take my advice and stay away from this place, unless you want to know what bad food tastes like.
