Editorial Review for Cafe Moose – by Hannah Levin

The Scene
Proprietor Kathleen Andersen spent more than 20 years in Mexico before she returned to the States, bringing her appreciation for the diversity of Mexican cuisine with her and a cache of recipes inspired by her travels. Bright pink walls, twinkling Christmas lights, rustic wooden tables, and an array of Mexican folk art convey an authentic, homey feel, while the casual, friendly servers helpfully navigate the regionally-divided menu.

The Food
Breakfast offerings are primarily variations of egg dishes, augmented by homemade black beans and warm corn tortillas, though traditional American breakfast is served as well. Huevos machaca is a carnivore-pleasing scramble of richly spiced shredded beef and eggs, topped with perfectly ripe avocado, while diners open to unconventional flavor marriages should opt for huevos motuleños, featuring smoky diced ham, bright green peas, and fresh plantain slices. Dinner selections include pork or chicken mole, carne asasda and an array of taco options.

The Extras

Satisfy your sweet tooth with a slice of "pastel de tres leches," an airy angelfood cake soaked in milk.

Good old fashion Ma and Pa restaurant, casual, modest prices, delicious food, unpretentious and excellent service and "cheers like atmosphere", I ate there many times and will go again soon.

Pros: low priced, friendly atmosphere, good food

Cons: street parking, needs updating, wall/deco change
