What People Are Saying About Stone Gardens Gym

The Scene – Located next to the Ballard Locks, Stone Gardens adds a distinctively modern touch to an area rich in tradition. The walls are made from plywood and coated with texture paint. While the rear bouldering and top-rope sections offer a few unique features (such as holes), for the most part wall texture is less pronounced and effective than in other gyms such as Vertical World and Cascade Crags. –
It's okay

My dad and I went there a couple days ago. The walls, let me say were very 'pretty'. Although they were catching to the eye, they weren't very fun to climb on. It was hard to edge on the panels and my feet kept slipping off. I'm not a beginner though. One thing I must point out is that the staff was not very friendly and the gym wasn't kept up very well. All they need to do is clean up a little. There were a lot of routes set and I like being able to belay off the harness.
- Pros: many routes, high walls, lots of parking
- Cons: dirty, hard to climb on, unfriendly service
The Details on Stone Gardens Gym
Know Before You Go:
Stone Gardens opens up a challenging face on the outside of the building during the warmer months. Even though it's top-roped, the foot- and hand-holds are spread out, and an upper portion of the wall leans out at a fairly steep angle.
The Extras:
A bright point for beginners--the staff often wanders around the gym offering encouragement and advice in a helpful, non-patronizing way.
