Editorial Review for Ravenna Gardens – by Helen Holter
The Scene
Seasonal smells--jasmine, pumpkin, evergreen--hit you as you enter this corner store of urban gardening goodies. Just when you discover those scents are really from candles and soaps, you hear a babbling water fountain in the back of the store. Heading toward it, you pass gifts galore for the gardener in you.
The Goods
With so little space, the store is jammed with high-quality, unusual and downright whimsical items, such as the popular iron arbor with a signature bird nest made in Mount Vernon, or kids' rubber boots shaped like frogs and ladybugs. Other favorites include locally made birdbaths, garden statuaries, and old-fashioned potting benches hammered from recycled barn wood. Gardening books, hand tools and tabletop displays abound; notice the unusual herbs, groundcovers and flowers this store is known for. And don't forget the dirt.

Insider Tips
When to GoPrices drop during the annual sidewalk sale in July.
The ExtrasThe "junk" in the store--old mailboxes, granny's pie safe, ancient watering cans--is for real and for sale. The owner hunts down these well-worn treasures around Puget Sound.
