What People Are Saying About Uptown Bakery

In Short – Two espresso bars keep the drinks flowing at especially busy times, which often occur before or after well-attended films at the neighboring Uptown Cinemas or performing arts events at the Seattle Center. In the mornings, locals hang out and read, chat or work on laptops. In addition to espresso, sample an array of breakfast sweets and after-dinner cakes.
Nice place for late night coffee

This review is for the Lower Queen Anne branch - it seems that some of the other reviewers were actually reviewing other locations, such as West Seattle. The coffee and desserts are not outstanding but I've found the quality to be reliable, although the dessert selection is somewhat limited. Service is friendly. A couple of times I asked them about the ingredients in a coffee drink whose name I didn't recognize (it was probably something that Uptown Espresso just made up) and they happily explained. I rarely have cash so I tend to pay with a debit card and sometimes feel bad about it when I'm making a small purchase at a small cafe or restaurant (they have to pay fees to the card processor when they are paid with a card, so they make less money). When I apologize for not having cash and using a debit card, Uptown staff always says it's no big deal - and they say it like they really mean it and don't mind, which makes me feel better! Late nights during the week are perfect for working on your laptop because there is plenty of seating and it's quiet. They're open until 10 pm Mon-Thu, which I guess is when most people go to bed on weeknights, but I wish they were open later, at least until 11 pm.
- Pros: Good coffee, good service, plentiful seating, convenient location
- Cons: None, really... Maybe they could add a few more options to their food selection...
Bad service

Always always a different barista everytime i have even gone there are new people who have no idea what they are doing. The food is okay , dont like pinapple-apple pie.( the crust is amazing though.) And croissants are changin overcooked- undercooked. Muffins undercooked and so are the cookies most the time.
Uptight Espresso
by the_urbanite
I have visited the West Seattle branch of Uptown Espresso several times in the last two months it has been open. I must say it is the WORST espresso bar in the entire city. The baristas (there's a new one every day) are not very helpful and seem very miserable. I order drinks for myself and co-workers and so I don't always no which one is which. Unlike Starbucks, which writes what's what on the cup, Uptown told me to do that myself. Not only that, they don't even put the lids on the cups. This is the reason that Uptown Espresso is beginning to be referred to as UPTIGHT ESPRESSO in my neighborhood.
- Cons: Expensive, Inconsistent, Rude
