Editorial Review for Peso's Kitchen & Lounge – by Citysearch Staff
In Short
The high ceiling is lipstick-red, cheesy bullfight art covers the lounge's back wall and the back bar couldn't be gaudier. It's tawdry--and fun. The fare presents few surprises, except for its spiciness. Unlike family-oriented Mexican places, this joint holds nothing back. Carne asada (broiled flank steak) and camarones al mojo de ajo (grilled shrimp in garlic butter) come in two versions: standard and diablo (with that devilish roasted habanero sauce).

Including Sonic pre-games (in days of old), I've probably been here 100 times & counting. While I've outgrown the bar scene for which Peso's is very well known, their food is simply outstanding in quality & price and keeps me and my friends (and now my significant other) coming back regularly. Sure there have been a couple sub-par experiences over the years but nothing noteworthy. As long as you are OK or at least tolerant of the inescapable boisterousness coming from the bar on many nights you will have an enjoyable meal.
Pros: EXCELLENT FOOD. More Tex-Mex than straight Mex. Lovely waitresses.
Cons: If you can't handle a little noise, not yer place.

The waitress was awful when it came to the bill. We had multiple tabs open, she moved them all to one tab without asking, and refused to give us a receipt when we were trying to settle up with each other. When you have 14 people in a group, I understand that things can get complicated, but as someone who used to serve THAT IS HER JOB. DO NOT consolidate tabs without asking, and don't cop an attitude when someone wants to see a receipt. I mentioned our experience to a friend, and he had a similar awful experience. He and his friends sat at the table and the people sitting there previously hadn't closed out the tab and the waitress was giving them a hard tab when they were complaining about getting the previous tables orders put on their bill. There are hundreds of bars around this city that manage to do a decent job about getting things right...these servers sould go receive some training from them.
