The Scene
Located near Seattle Center, the bistro draws pre-theater diners who often return for dessert and drinks. This space once housed a Spanish restaurant, which shows in the charming tiled floor and starkly contrasting dark window trim, offset by cream-colored walls. Service is friendly, informed and sometimes delivered in an English accent.
The Food
Perfectly grilled portobellos with balsamic vinaigrette, greens and chevre sound a note familiar throughout Seattle. Vallely's version of the quintessentially British meat pie is covered in puff pastry, containing ostrich breast, with Walla Walla onions and rhubarb lending sweet and tangy undertones to its sauce. Beautifully baked halibut cheeks crusted with herbs and couscous are served over a variant of colcannon. An Irish favorite, colcannon traditionally combines mashed potatoes and kale or cabbage, but this version includes parsnips.

The drink prices were very affordable and taste good! It is kind of a small space, but the bartenders are quite friendly. Jabu's always seems to be packed!
